After a long absence I've built a few 1/56 aircraft to continue my Pacific War collection. All are scratchbuilds in wood, painted free-hand.
First is a P39 Airacobra:

Amazing

Nicely done :)

I finished this Grumman F3F-2 back in November:

I am very happy to see you back. Your wooden builds are always an inspiration and these latest builds look just great!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! My plan for 2023 is to build a plane each month. I'll post photos here as I complete them
-
Wow, super job! I’m looking forward to seeing future posts.
-
Really amazing skills! How to shape the form of the wings? They look very accurate.
-
well done mate. I couldn't make a plane look that good,
even when using a kit. That is why I make tanks, I can
always stick some stowage or netting over the worst bits.
:D

Great models again, shame you lost all the old links. The Aircobra is an interesting design with the engine behind the pilot. It makes a lot of sense in terms of the center of gravity being over the wings.
-
Just incredible.

ichwillauch = wing shape is provided (somewhat) by the plans I use but mostly I try to make them "look" accurate with airfoil shape and gradual taper.
jon-1066 = Aircobra is indeed an interesting design with center of gravity over the wing (on the real plane) but on a scale model all the weight is in the tail so i had to add a mini's worth of lead/pewter to the nose to keep the front wheel down.
I wanted to highlight the curious cockpit doors of the P39 and decided this westwind german tank crewman was a good candidate for kitbash:

Wonderful work; you have some woodworking skills 8)
But the pilot on the Ariacobra's wing is looking depressed at the least and possibly scared in those pictures! lol

Fantastic work. I've been building some in 1/72 scale, but it is hard to pack in the details at that scale (except for the B-17F I made my dad for Christmas). I've been thinking about scaling up and seeing yours is just the push I need. I have to finish painting my own P-39 (a P-400 actually) and the B-17G I started. I think I'll go for a 1/48 Wildcat after that though and see if I can approach your level of detail.
-
If you wanted something even more obscure you could call it a P400. It was the early war export version with out the supercharger. Lower ceiling and rate of climb.

Great to see you back. I've missed these masterclasses in modelling. Love the latest batch.
