You could cut up straws or some thin tubing.

Cheap synthetic brushes on Amazon come with brush tip protectors.

You can also make them with coffee stirrers.

This US site sells packs of clear brush protectors that could be trimmed to size.  Available on Amazon US but I did not see it on the UK site.
