I will try to build something like the Yen Tu Pagoda . It won#t be a complete look alike more like inspiration. It is a Pagoda on a mountaintop in Vietnam.
-
Sounds interesting. Plenty of potential to make the surrounding scenery add some great flavour to it as well!
-
Good luck.
-
Here are some pictures of the real thing:
-
VERY nice choice. should look good. 8)
-
Nice! I will be interested how you will address the roof.
-
Should go well with your existing project 8)
-
Ooh, that looks like a great subject!
Best of luck! :)
-
That photo kind of reminds me of the temple in the movie 2012 - where the lonely monk starts to pound the bell/gong (been a while since I watched) as the impossibly giant waves crest the Himalayas. Fun movie but highly improbable - but such is the nature of movie making.
-
That should be fun and real back and beyond - keen to see flowers, bells, and orange.
-
Yes, the roof is the challange with this little project. I will do the hilltop and the Pagoda as two pieces. This way I can use the hilltop as a possible firebase for my 105mm howitzers I just got from Rubicon. So at least the hill serves two purposes gaming wise.

Snap - I have a very different project and a very different theme (without mountains), with a removable top for alternative use too :D
-
I am looking forward to this one Tom.
-
Here is the start of the hilltop the pagoda will sit on .
-
Sorry for havig them rotated 90 °. I don't know how that happened. On my computer they are the right way up. I splitt the hill in two parts for better storage. More to come
-
Here is the nearly finished hilltop. I hope this time the right side up ;)
-
And here are some 3D printed fittings for the Pagoda
-
The hilltop and the 3d prints are looking very good!
-
Looking good 8) 8)

Looks good so far
-
Looking good, Tom :-*
-
Great stuff so far. Makes me feel behind on mine.
-
Thanks gents! Hopefully I will start with the Pagoda today.
-
Here is the start on a corner post of the pagoda
-
And the hill with the start of the Pagoda. The peak of the hill is insiude the Pagoda because " Budda once stood on the hilltop" , just to make it plausible to have a Pagoda in such a remote place.
-
Like the corner posts of the pagoda.
Consider that idea well & truly nicked! ;)
-
you are welcome!
-
That looks great so far, the hill looks like it has a decent amount of height too, and I like the use of the stones, that will give it a bit of weight, think I need to steal that for my hill.
-
Pretty neat. I like the Buddha "carved" into the pillar idea.
-
Here are pictures of the most complicated part the roof of the Pagoda.
-
Fantastic!
-
The shape of the roof is very good!
-
Oh my! Good job with the roof 8)
-
Thanks!
-
That is a roof that I would not even dream of attempting. Well impressed with the results.
-
That roof is a straight up impressive piece of foam construction, looking forward to seeing what it looks like with tiles and details on it!
-
I echo all the comments on the superb roof structure. I am wondering, as Wirelizard, how you will accomplish the tiling.
-
I will do the tiling with very thin styrodur slices as well. The slices will be about 1mm thick and used to cut individual tiles from them. I will go for a flat wooden tile effect not the pantile one used in many spanish buildings.
-
Here is a little bit more progress. I started on the detailing of the Pagoda. the second picture shows the contraption with a mini for size comparrison
-
Looking good, Tom :-*
-
I worked some more on the roof.
-
That roof looks very fiddly, cracking job.
-
Cracking job on that roof 8)
-
the roof looks amazing, and everything is really coming together
-
thanks gents!
-
Very nicely done.
-
Here is the completed build. from now on sorry but no more pictures.
-
Sorry don#t know why they are turned 90° to the left :(
-
No worries, it looks great. I love the little details like the dragons and the bowls of offerings.
-
Wow that looks fantastic :o 8) :o 8)
-
Cool, and well done on finishing this.
Looking forward to seeing it painted.
One benefit of being the organiser of the BSC is I get to see finished paintjobs before everyone else :D :D :D
-
This looks great Tom! :-*
-
Really came out well!! :-*
-
That is really impressive.
-
That looks amazing :-*
-
Thanks guys!
-
That looks absoballylutely top hole, wot wot! :-* :o
-
That came out really good. Well done!
-
Great job! Really evocative of the theme.
Where did you get such thin xps foam?
-
I cut the foam with my proxon cutting table into very thin slices, something like 2mm thick , you can almost look through it. I use a cutting device from "shifting lands "( I think thats the name when I remember correctly). It simply is a piece of mdf standing upright as a guide for the foam to get a equal thickness over the complete block of foam. Hope that makes sense..
-
A wonderful build!
-
Thank you
-
Yup, that’s a thing of beauty! Trying to work with cork myself at the mo….it isn’t the easiest medium. I particularly like your work with the foam though….that is nice.
-
Thanks!
-
That's an excellent looking build. 8)
I really like how you have done the roof; very different to how I did mine, but very convincing. Looking forward to seeing it painted.
