Title: BSC2023 Dr Mathias Turnip28 Root Shrine
Post by: Dr Mathias on 03 February 2023, 10:41:57 PM
Well dammit, I did a place of worship last year for my Space Hulk, so that's out!  lol

I guess I'll do a Turnip28 Root Shrine, might be mobile, might be a static building.

An armored turnip carrier on tracks dragging roots behind it would be well cool.

I was thinking of your Space Hulk entry when the polls closed! All those pews... :D
Good luck for this one, it should be good.
And thank you for introducing me to Turnip28, which I had never heard of before, sounds cool!

Groan, I might dock you some points for that one  ;)  :D

Also, some essential reading for Dr Mathias, if you can get hold of it:

I had also not heard of the scale creep problem with 28mm Turnips.  :D The way things are going these days, we may be awash in 54mm turnips masquerading as 28's before long. You would think a "root" vegetable would stay a little more anchored in its size and not fluctuate as much...  lol

I had a little bit of time to devote to this project this week.

The concept will be a heavy cart or wagon with a religious-looking shrine/canopy enclosing a resin cast I received from an online acquaintance. It's an eggplant, with a face. Not sure what to really say other than its a strange world out there.

I designed a quick base structure in Tinkercad and printed it off on my Ender3. I also printed a 'Root Oxen' beast (from the Turnip28 Patreon) to pull the shrine. I'm gathering up components and will start building soon.

This looks better than the cover of the book I suggested!  8)

Oh man, I remember the Enormous Turnip. We had that book at primary school.  :)

Looking forward to seeing Doc. M's finished project.

This shrine will be a lot easier to store than the previous one.   :)
Looking forward to it's completion.

I decided that my block shape would be petty dull to work with, so I took a trip to the local thrift shop and vowed to leave with something I could use. I ended up with a Disney pull toy sailing ship. I took it apart and am filling in the gaps. I also built some wheel axles.

Getting close to being done with the build phase. Need to cut bases and finish up the canopy. Created a pillow out of Milliput, and the support structure for the canopy.

That looks fantastic, definitely a better idea using the boat.
Can’t wait to see the finished build  8) 8) 8)

Thanks all, certainly not my most impressive build by any stretch, but it will do for Turnip games :)

This is probably as far as I'll go before painting, as I intend to add some ropes or chains etc.

The change to using the toy boat definately gives the build more character.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with your painting skills.  8)
