The 2nd Edition of General d'Armee Napoeonic rules is now well underway and will hopefully be released in the Spring or Summer this year.
There are now three design updates, providing insight into the design philosophy and new mechanisms over on the Too Fat Lardies Reisswitz Press forum and on the General d'Armee Facebook group.

Of course, more than happy to answer any questions here on the LAF as well!

Ooh, looking forward to this - I don't realise the second edition was potentially so close already! I've had a look through your updates discussions, and I must say that I'm quietly excited about the changes in 2E. :)
Will this end up as a print edition, and if so in hardback or softback (or both?) please?
-
Yes, it'll be out in both pdf and hardcopy - softback.

Thank you! :)

It's only been a year since I purchased the first edition! Oh well, that means the sales were god and there should be a large community of players.

So, I don't know if you're still following this thread, or if I'm even still in time to make any suggestions on the rules, but... Just in case:
Reading about the re-rolls rather than modifiers in this thread:
https://toofatlardies.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16016&sid=282bc86702618ad94633344c1d3d7f97 (https://toofatlardies.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16016&sid=282bc86702618ad94633344c1d3d7f97)
Something occurred to me; occasional re-rolls feel powerful, rare, and add suspense. However, when they are regularly used in a game (see: most modern GW games), they quickly have a tendency to become tedious.
If I may, an alternative is to add a dice to the initial roll you make for each re-roll you have available, and then drop the lowest dice in accordance with how many you added. So for example, instead of one dice re-rolled twice, you roll three dice and drop the two lowest. This still produces the exact same outcome, and it speeds up gameplay a bit more as you're not interrupting the fun to keep re-rolling that one dice dice again and again.
A minor thing, I know, but hopefully in the spirit of GdA 2E. :)

Rerolls are used in the Charge Phase, representing superior morale and supporting units.
You start with a base number of dice depending on the unit's situation, (disordered or heavy casualties) and then may reroll if you have better morale or supports and that's it.
It creates tension while hopefully still accounting for Napoleonic tactical nuances
Rerolls do not apply to firing or combat.
With firing you have modifiers to reflect the tactical situation but these simply raise or lower your fire potential, there's no long list of modifiers to add or subtract.
Combat and melee is pretty much as per the first edition.
Hope that helps.

Ah, I see, thank you. I had originally understood the re-rolls had usurped more modifers than those...
