Title: Shenadoah fields for a visit?
Post by: vtsaogames on 23 March 2023, 09:22:43 PM
A gaming buddy of mine is headed to the Shenandoah Valley soon. Anyone know what fields are best to visit? I went to Winchester many years ago and only found the odd historical marker on traffic islands.  Thanks for any help.

Edit: Never mind. My buddy is staying near Richmond, different story entirely.

New Market battlefield is a nice local battlefield.
I don't believe there is much dealing with Jackson's
Shenandoah campaign. Cedar Creek has a battlefield
but I haven't been there so I can't tell what it is like.

Well, if he were going, I'd visit Harper's Ferry just to look over the terrain, the town is a bit touristy but not a bad visit.

And depending how much time was available and how far afield, a trip to the Bull Run battlefield which gives you two battles in one.

Don't know much more than that - on my trip to that side of the continent with wife in tow we headed further west into the state to visit an arboretum and then more scenic drives before heading towards either Monticello or Appomattox, been nearly 20 years now - I know we visited both.
