Title: City Fight!
Post by: Mick A on 02 May 2023, 11:54:30 AM
My recent Alpha Strike Battletech game at the local club. A Clan Smoke Jaguar Beta Galaxy star vs Combine defenders of a Sword of Light lance and a Ronin lance.
The Jaguars entered from one end of the table splitting into two groups and started firing on buildings as both Combine lances started to sprint down the city. The Sword of Light ran straight into heavy fire taking damage to the Pheonix Hawk while the Ronin slowed their advance after taking fire from the Hellbringer.
The Sword of Lights Wasp was taken out shortly followed by the Pheonix Hawk but they both heavily damaged the Summoner forcing it to withdraw. The Hellbringer fired on the Ronin Thunderbolt but was destroyed by heavy fire from its target, the Marauder and the Awesome while the Mad Dog and Battlemaster removed chunks if armour from each other.
The Warhawk and the Wolverine exchanged fire as the Sword of Light Warhammer headed towards the other group of Jaguars leaving the Wolverine to its fate...
The Timber Wolf and the Mad Dog concentrated fire on the Warhammer heavily damaging it as the Ronin advanced towards them. The Timber Wolf destroyed the Battle Master before starting to pull back as the Warhammer and Mad Dog destroyed each other.
The Wolverine put up a good fight but was reduced to slag by a now badly mauled Warhawk. Seeing how badly damaged it was the Ronin Awesome followed it as it started to withdraw stopping it in its tracks with two fatal hits.
The Timber Wolf continued to withdraw and managed to take out the Thunderbolt before leaving the area.
A win for the Combine but with a loss of six mechs to three Jaguar ones.

Looks great, using the cotton batting for destroyed mechs is great.

Thanks for sharing.

That does look great! The whole spectacle just works.

The buildings look like they’re card- did you have to add weight to keep them stable? I’m clumsy and would knock over office towers if I played on a table like that and the buildings didn’t have much heft… I’m curious because I’m planning to play some games using urban areas.

Thanks  :)
I cut styrene shapes slightly smaller than the buildings which are blue tacked to the surface then the buildings put over, it works really well  :)

I maybe damned for saying so, (28mm is the one true scale and all,) but that looks might fine. I bet it was alot of fun to play over too.

Ah, blue tack! That’s a good way to handle the slipping and capsizing. Definitely need to file that idea for future use.

A fantastic set up and great looking forces.  Thanks for sharing.

What era where you playing.  A 2 to 1 victory sounds like a Inner Sphere victory to me.

For mine I add cardboard or foamcore to help it hold shape:

Here's a reasonable video on someone doing this for infinity terrain.

I did this to the alpha strike buildings using cardboard on the roof and two opposite walls.  This eliminates the bowing and flex, which making it a bit heavier overall.
