After a hiatus, I got back to painting some old Minifigs for my retro-Tolkien project. The Minifigs ME range were the first metal figures I owned in any quantity, starting sometime in 1974. I did all 24 of these guys in a large batch, switching between various green and browns in sub-batches of 4.
Next up, I hope, will be a dozen man-orcs to reinforce the army of Mordor … (usually; Saruman’s force is still a little way off.)

Lovely to see these.
My first fantasy figures were Minifigs ME range.
2 wizards with staffs, duly painted with moons and stars on robes and a strip of hobbits.
Purchased from a cycle shop in rural Lincolnshire, a more random place you could not find!
Look forward to seeing more

I guess I’ll convert this into a project thread. (Or not…that didn’t reset the main title …) I added a unit of a dozen Man-Orcs to the order of battle this weekend. The figures being somewhat basic, I put most of my effort into the shields, deliberately choosing something that looked orcish (to me), but wasn’t either a white hand of Saruman or a red eye of Mordor. My orc collection will eventually need to do triple duty, with the third being Misty Mountain orcs for the Battle of the Five Armies, so most orc shields are going to be somewhat generic.

They look terrific! Great work on the shields - just right for the vaguely described "red and black" heraldry in The Hobbit.
