I recently picked up a copy of Clash of Spears and Rise of Eagles for some historical type gaming. Pure historical is pretty much unlike me but I fancied a decent Imperial Roman army clashing with some celts. Anyhow, as always I got sidetracked looking at the Dark Ages lists. Then I ended up buying the Arcane companion for Clash of Spears which has lists for Northern Barbarians, Draugr (Viking zombies!) and Trolls!
With that in mind I bought some Victrix Vikings and some Conquest Trolls to use as Frost Giants.
I'm planning on building a Norse army with fantasy elements to start and then a Draugr Army (suprise, suprise).
First up some Victrix Vikings to get me started:

I have also painted up a few Jotunn (Conquest Trolls):

I think the "Jotunn" scale up really well with the Victrix Vikings, being about twice as tall as a man.

I will post more as I go.

Those look excellent, I like the jotun a lot! The colours you used work really well, especially the bronze with the blue skin tones.
-
Oh damn, that is a great idea. They make excellent giants. I am guessing they are frost giants, will you be doing fire giants and trolls as well?
-
Fabulous looking Jotunn. As with the other replies, the colours are spot on.
-
Absolutely superb! I eagerly await more! lol
-
Wonderful paintjobs on both the humans and jötunen! :-*

+1 to all the above comments. :-*
-
Oh they all look great! Good spot on the size of those conquest trolls.
-
Jaw-droppingly good!

I've come to love Victirx myself, and you have painted your vikings warriors very well. Bold colours that I am sure make them pop wonderfully even at table distance, and I in particular like the work you've managed with the decals, adding the extra mile to weave them into the miniature itself.

Thank you all for the comments. I’ve really been enjoying painting these. I am currently working on some berserkers to fit in with these. I have a large collection of Viking minis (unpainted) but a lot of the older minis now look pretty poor when compared to the new plastics.
I will post some WIP pictures when I have assembled them.

Lovely work 8)

Those are excellent (as everyone has said) and I agree with others that the blue skin tone is perfect. I had a goodly collection of vikings and got rid of them when my opponent got tired of saga, I wish I’d thought of doing something like this with them instead.
Keep up the good work,
Balm

I've lost count the number of times I got rid of stuff and wish I hadn't! Luckily my "better-half" is understanding and has allowed me a room in the house to store half-finished projects in case i go back to them...
I have just base coated some more vikings, including two converted berserkers. I used Warlord Celts with some Victrix bits:

Here's comparison shot with a purely victrix mini. I think they blend in OK.

Back to work tomorrow so probably wont get any paint on them until next weekend.

Always so nice to see a new Pappa Midnight post! Wonderful work as always!
-
Amazing stuff! Loving the dark chainmail with the splashes of colour on the clothing.
-
Lovely work, but especially those marvellous trolls.
-
Great stuff! Love those jotunn
-
nice... I second the sentiment about the skin color for the trolls! I always wondered if they could be used in 28mm and couldn't find any nice comparison pictures. seems they are spot on, if not a bit static as a unit, but on the single bases, that isn't as obvious.
thanks for showing these off!

Very cool! :-*

I apologize for the delay in responding, I have had a lot going on! Thank you for the comments.
I have completed some more minis to add to my collection:
Two more Jotunn

Some more Dane Axes

And i've completed some more berserkers

I'm quite pleased with the way the two berserker conversions turned out and I think they fit in quite well.
I will start on some Draugr over the weekend.

Very nice all around but I do like how you paint hair Real definition even in your blonds.
-
Oh my word, those giants are superb! Great choice of minis and colours.
-
I'm absolutely loving your paint style and this project.
Could we get a photo battle report at some point? :) Would be awesome to see the minis (and system) in action!
-
Those are excellent additions! Your painting suits the figures really well.
-
Nice project. The Vikings and Jotunn came up really nice.
-
Oh my. Those vikings are absolutely stunning. Obviously the faces and the stripes, but I also love the attention to detail on the quilted jacket and the fur hat. Wonderful.
-
I like the vikings, but I love those Jotum, most excellent.
