Title: What color would US Navy ground vehicles be during the period?
Post by: Doc Twilight on 05 November 2009, 11:49:50 PM
Ok, Ande's got me thinking about doing more in lines of a naval brigade for my ACW2 project, so...

I'm curious. What color would US Navy ground vehicles (trucks, armored cars, staff cars, etc.) have been painted during the Interwar Period (or at least at the end of WW1?) I seem to recall a pale blue color for some reason, but I could be completely off.
Thoughts, suggestions?

Appreciated,

Alex

Sorry I wouldn't know, but what faction would they represent? Some more feds coming up the mississippi to restore order and commerce?

A light bluish grey, olive drab, or for real command vehicles, standard civilian navy blue with added insignia.

Federal Navy, as used during Patton's Ohio River campaign, 1935-1936, to be precise:)

Cory -

Thanks for the info. Very much appreciated.

sweet, you know you really should post up more of your back ground.

Thank you:)

I am still working out the kinks, and there are a lot of 'em. Trying to make it original and entirely my own. I note that many backgrounds being proposed are excellent, but borrow heavily from Crimson Skies, Turtledove, etc... trying to avoid that for my own personal purposes. Ultimately, I'd love to support this somehow with my miniatures company. Maybe I can put out a book of some kind on the subject.

I really think that the AVBCW approach ie: one year at a time, is definitely the way to go. Otherwise the amount of detail required can be almost overwhelming!

I hope I havent opened a can of worms here  :) I would have thought a pale blue/blue grey type colour would be appropriate but admit I have no real knowledge of this period at all.

The World War Two colour for Navy vehicles was often a kind of light battleship grey, not really blue at all...

Now this is a bit later than what you're asking, but it would seem a reasonable colour to use and not too much of a stretch (it is very nearly the time period we are talking about after all).

Edit: Oops, sorry, somehow missed Cory's post. How rude of me. Didn't mean to step on his toes.  :)
