I’ve always wanted a pike army to add to me broadly Punic era 15mm armies but I’ve never really been able to face the prospect of painting all those figures! So , on one of the Forged in Battle ancients Kickstarters a few years ago I bought a load of pikemen. And they sat there. And waited. And I just couldn’t face the painting. Then while talking to a friend on Facebook (Trevor Shetland) he said that he did commission painting and would be up for painting some for me. So I sent him a few. Three years ago…
It took a while to get them done. He had plenty on the go and I was in no rush but I really fancied getting them done this year so just over a week ago he finished them, turned out to be travelling up to my area for work, and we finally met up and he handed them over!
I then spent about a week basing them. I repainted a few of the cloaks on the command figures just to differentiate them. But this should give me a good start!

I know I should maybe have gone for a lighter basing but ALL my stuff is based the same and I’m not changing now! I had 24 pikemen still sat in a bag so fancied doing another 32 figure blog. Westwind have been kind enough to send me them so they will be on the painting table post-hols.
I now need to decide exactly which pike army to focus on and paint up the extras! I feel a need for cataphracts….
Cheers
Andy

Yes, very nice and they do pull off the phalanx look too.

Lovely. :-* :-* :-*
And nothing wrong with the bases. :)
-
Brilliant
Wouldn’t fancy facing them on the field of battle
-
They look great.
-
Thanks all. I really must crack on with the next lot.

Nicely done force ;)
-
They look absolutely awesome. Looking forward to seeing the completed army.
I went with something very similar with my own
-
Excellent! You can't beat a good pike block!
Well...the Romans could...
-
I've added another couple of bases.

They look great. Can I ask, how easy was it to fit the wire pikes?
-
I clean the figure up. The upper hand needs the groove for the pike widening a little so it sits better. I just use a knife. If the lower hand is under the pike I drill a small hole. If not it just sits in the channel between arm and tunic. Test that the pike fits and is upright. Dab of decent super glue gel on each hand. Put the pike in place and hold.
I fit them before priming so the bond is metal to metal. So far I've had none drop off.
It sounds a bit faffy but once you settle into the routine it's pretty quick.
-
Sounds like a faff, but within my scope I reckon. :)

Impressive phalanx object… Well done, Count!

I really do like FiB minis. Your phalanx looks great.
However my Macedonian and Successor armies are by Xyston, about 3000 minis strong. The drilling out of the hands on all spear armed figures is a pain but they are lovely.

Those figures look amazing, and the basing is also superb. I've just bought a small starter set of FiB ancients from Noble Knight; you've set a high bar!! Wow.
-
Very impressive.

Wow, what a beautiful force.
