I have been reading what Captain Nolan has to say about how the Bengal Native Light Cavalry fared against the Sikh Gorchurra in the Anglo-Sikh Wars.
They did not do very well. Nolan put this down to how they were armed and equipped. He seems to think the men themselves were fine.
If you are interested in cavalry or the Anglo-Sikh Wars it makes fascinating reading.
I have a piece on my blog looking at his findings.
If it is of interest here is the link.

Thanks! Good stuff.

Thanks Sepoy.
I have further pieces to come of the British Indian Irregular Cavalry, British Cavalry and then the Gorchurra.

Looking forward to that mate! Sounds brilliant. Very interested in the cavalry of the various State Contingent Forces as well. Bhopal, Malwa, Gwalior, etc. Fascinating stuff.

Good to hear Sepoy.
Nolan is an eye opener. He gives us some interesting stuff on the Scinde Horse. He interviewed one of the troopers. He is unreserved in his praise of the Irregular Indian cavalry in British Service.
