Title: Cheap DVDs at Asda
Post by: Gluteus Maximus on 08 November 2009, 06:38:37 PM
Sorry to any non-UK residents, but my local Asda has copies of all the classic Universal horror DVDs for only £3.00 each  :o :-* 8)

They are pretty well all there including Frankenstein, The WolfMan, Dracula,  etc etc.

I could only afford three, so I bagged The Bride Of Frankenstein (which I always preferred to Frankenstein), The Wolfman (superbly atmospheric with a great performance from Chaney) and The Creature From The Black Lagoon/The Mummy double bill. That's four great films for only £9.00!

I'm hoping they are still available next week when I will have more money  ;D

I shall have to pop in to the big Wal-Mart/Asda superstore in Queensferry.

I think "Son of Frankenstein" is my favorite now.  (not only is it the real insoiration behind "Young Frankenstein", bujt because it also has legoai and Lionel Atwill)

It holds up well too.

Of course, the Creature trio is my GOAT!  Juilia Adams in that one piece!   My GF has the Black Lagoon to thank for my habit of swiming up to her, pulling her underwater and  groping and grabbing her!

Hey Gluteus, I don't have Asda near me, (we only shop at Waitrose anyway ;))

If I send you the money would you pick up Dracula and Frankenstein. They are the only two I don't have.

Sorry, they appear to have been a "Halloween" special. I've been back several times, but no sign of them since. Needless to say I should have bought as many as possible when I saw them  >:(

If I see any in future, I'll PM you ASAP.

Matakishi, I would recommend the Dracula with the added strings quartet background music.

The other, theatrical version, with no musical score,  in my opinion, doesn't hold up well.

And, look for cheap sets of that old Universal complete sets!  The bonus cds on the making of, interviews, and commentary is fantatsic!  (They have a "Dracula", "Wolfman", Mummy" "Creature", and Frankentsein"  and "Invisible Man" set, with all sequals (about 5 movies per set) and bonus stuff!

I picked up Frankenstein set for $8 (US), had the mummy and the Creature.  The Mummy sequals are hilarfious!  (How Im-Ho-Tep winds up in a Louisiana Swamp is just one funny plot hole)
