Title: Mujahideen martyrs
Post by: Westbury on September 08, 2023, 03:06:29 PM
In a heat comparable to the reality of Afghanistan we had a 3 player Spectre V2 game this week.
Motorised Rifle squad under Sgt Zelinski & Cpl Vlasov guarding an out of the way road junction hoping nothing will happen.
Unknown to them two Mujahideen section sections were gathered off east planning to expel the infidels.
One section (the clever one), under Ahmed Ali, skulked in the dried up river bed that ran behind the Soviet building, the other, under Hajji Bari hid in the ruins of an old castle to the north of Ali.

Eager to get to grips with the enemy, and ignoring the fact that the ground to his front was largely open, Bari and his men stepped out and advanced across the ground letting rip with some completely ineffective AK47 fire.
Ali raised his eyes to heaven, said a prayer and started off along the river bed.
And that was to be the theme for the morning.

The somewhat shocked Soviets couldn't quite believe their eyes but availed themselves of the target rich environment and blazed away, with the PKM on the roof doing particular damage.
Not surprisingly Bari's group lost several fighters and many were wounded so a strategic withdrawal to some nearby rocks was deemed necessary especially when the crew of the BMP1 got their vehicle fired up and started moving out.
Ali, the cunning fox (other descriptions were offered  ;) ) kept on creeping along leaving his sniper behind on overwatch.

It was only ever going to end one way for Bari and his men, the weight of concentrated fire cut them to pieces and once the BMP joined in all that was left was a pile of bodies  :'(

Rather belatedly, Ali joined the action; his sniper, Majid Javadi, took out his Soviet opposite number but was then riddled with bullets from the PKM when the soviets realised there was another Mujahideen group entering the battle.
Being caught out of position the Soviets took flank fire from Ali's men and several troopers were killed, including Cpl Vlasov, "remember the Bari martyrs" cried Ali's men as their RPG operator, Sayed Anwari, sent a rocket into the oil storage tank with spectacular results.
Realising that no help was coming the remainder of the Soviet squad scrambled into the returning BMP and headed for base.

A short and savage affair played in the right spirit. Man of the match award goes to JC for going balls out as Ahmed Ali.

As usual the Russians twist the truth.
It was our plan all along for one force to draw their attention, while the other closed to the fort,
skillfully using the local terrain, the dried up stream bed.
By the end they were fleeing the field, leaving their dead behind.
We will withdraw, after leaving a few IEDs. Then when they return, & the stupid foreigners will,
they will have to bring a new fuel container then lots of fuel. The tankers we can ambush on
the road.
The pictures:-
333 = The Fort & to the left the unguarded stream bed.
334 = Close up of the Fort.
337 = My Warriors prepare to move along the steam bed.
339 = The heroic charge by our brothers. You will be avenged!
341 = Russian Armour opens up on our Martyrs. Brothers I weep for you.
342/3/4 = The destruction of the fuel tank, added to MASSIVE Russian casualties breaks
their resolve & they start to run.

An enjoyable game, on a very hot day. Thanks you Ian. :)

Looks a very quick game! JC blew up the oil storage tank? I seem to remember that happening in several of our games if you give JC a missile he will let fly at the biggest thing to see what happens.  lol

Nice mat, terrain and figures Ian!

Quick game? Yes. lol
JC didn't blow up the Oil tank, I did. :D
I would rather have blown up the AFV, but crawling along a river bed is not fast & I
couldn't get flipping near enough! :?

As I see it, Ali skulked about in that streambed, while Bari did the hard work (and the dying).  Only when Bari had taken it in the shorts, did Ali expose himself (so to speak...).  And instead of hitting the BMP he chose to blow up a gas tank.

Is that about right?   :D

Ian's work, two different explosion effects. As you are seeing a still picture, you
are missing out the added effect (from one of explosions) of flickering  lights.

The scenery & figures all belong to Ian.
I will take some credit for the sledging though. :D :D :D
