A long time ago, In a Galaxy, far far away...
They must have had...things wot did stuff. My entry will be just such a 'thing'
-
I look for to seeing your 'thing'.
-
First off I'll have to work out how to make it. lol
-
I think we need schematics, blue prints, heat mass balances etc……nothing half bothered now!
-
I think we need schematics, blue prints, heat mass balances etc……nothing half bothered now!
And there was I thinking that you knew me David. lol lol lol
-
I just think if you going to do a thingy, it needs doing right is all! 🧐
-
I think I'll be safe.
No Hain's manual or Osprey books on...'Things' so no-one can check up. lol lol lol
-
I have chosen my starting point!
OK they were the latest bits I saved from going into the bin.
Still not sure what I'm going to do with them, but it will do doubt,
include other bits from the boxes (& boxes, & boxes) of 'interesting' bits. :?

Looks like the basis for a Nomax Particle Accelerator to me fella!

lol lol lol
Now if you had said, an 'Accelerator, Particle Tester'
That would have been an APT comment. :D
-
Some interesting shapes to work with.
-
The elusive spraybottle bits! Curious to see what you'll come up with.

Me too. lol

Starting to glue things together & see what fits, & where.
Parts were lightly sanded to aid glue adhesion.
'Base' consists of a Peanut butter jar lid, tin lid from a tin of fruit & a spare round base.
-
So far, so nifty. :D

Thank you.

Do you have any idea yet or do you just keep adding bits until the light goes on? I’m intrigued….

Taking shape. Or shapes. 8)

ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA lol lol lol
I spent some time yesterday trying various 'bits' to see what would fit &/or look nice.
That will have far more influence on what it turns out like than any thought process
of mine.
Had to stop though as table had to be cleared for our 'Regulars' game. Tried out
DAK Attack. Bob will be doing the AAR & extra photos will come from James & I.
Taking shape. Or shapes. 8)
Oh yes. ;D

Bit of a re-think.
The sub-build bit, that was to have gone inside the structure...doesn't work there for me.
I do not want to lose it totally, so it will go 'outside' the structure.
This means I need a base. Cup mat chosen & duly marked to look like a 'concrete' slab base.
Started adding 'bits' to make it look more like some kind of...heck I still have no idea what.
Bits include:- Parts of zip-locks, scrap sprue, broken peg & another tin lid to secure the
structure to its new base.
-
Whatever it is its certainly intriguing.
-
My guess is an emplaced radar turret ;D

No use asking me. ;D lol

Self cleaning automatic toilet?

Self cleaning automatic toilet?
Remind me to tell you the Toilet Paper joke next time we meet. :D
-
Extra 'slab' added as a base for the (now not inside) gubbins.
More bits from stock.
Includes tiny buttons from a broken calculator, & spools from old cassettes.
Also in there is a (green) broken pen clicker, part of a disposable razor etc. etc.

As a bearded Australian chap used to say “do you know what it is yet ?”
What type of glue are you using Pete ?
-
What type of glue are you using Pete ?
First, as you mentioned before, lightly sand the plastic, then
a tiny bit of superglue. When it has set (10+ minutes), & if I think
it needs it, I'll drip a bit more superglue into the join.
Some bits, normally the ones with a larger contact surface, have
UHU or PVA/Wood glue.
I have NO INTENTION of giving the construction what JC used to
call, 'The Wall Test' i.e. throw it at the wall & see if the glue holds
lol lol lol lol

You've got some awesome little bits and bobs there- that piece is going to have some really neat details.

Thanks. I would like to say it is denuding my stock of 'Interesting Bits' but the
truth is that I'm not even scratching the surface.
::)
-
Added some more bits, & given it a first spray.
This is of a 'plastic coating' aerosol.
When it is dry I'll probably spray it black, attach the sub assembly then
it will be on to painting/finishing.
-
Hey Pete,
Stick a smoke funnel on the back and we get a VSF objective to battle over.
Evil Dr Smith’s horn gun. o_o o_o

Oh the pain, oh the pain Will Robinson. :D

That is looking great!

\That is something I didn't think of; the modeling styrene will take basic spray primer perfectly fine but the LED housing and other bits may need a different primer coat.

Not that I thought about it. On a recent visit to a Sister-in-law (near Chester) we like to
visit the '50p Shop' A real old fashioned emporium. Sadly no longer is everything 50p.
Same as PoundLand not all things a pound. I do find bargains. The last visit I picked up
some cheap rattle-cans, £1.50 for the plastic coating one. :)
Last visit it was some modern army trucks (see my thread on Workbench)

Second spray, black this time.
Some piping added, most were cast 28mm spears which I replaced with long pins.
I keep saying, 'I don't throw things away' :D
-
Nope not a radar turret.....now I have no idea what it is...looks good though!
-

::)
I know this to be very true. He gave me a load of bits that I filled three 40 litre tubs with ( not yet used)

Like “Here. Hold my junk!”
🤭
-
He touched it, it's his. Dems de rulz. lol lol lol
-
That is a really good looking err thing. lol
I'm curious about the paint scheme. Is it easier or harder choosing colors without knowing what this is?

My default system for painting unusual things (i.e. not things like Napoleonic Uniforms)
is to just take a colour/some colours out & play with them. ;)
This does several things:-
It uses up those colours that still have fat tubes of paint,
Lets me experiment with different effects/colour mixes, &
as I hate wasting those last bits of paint on the palette.
I get some interesting washes as I thin it down.
Having said all that, my original idea was for...something that would
fit in the Star Wars Universe. It will therefore probably be white. lol
-
I haven’t got a clue what it is, but I like it 8)
-
Looks like an emplacement of some sort. Definitely cool scratchbuild however!
-
That has a very impressive amount of gubbins stuck on it! lol
-
Thanks guys.
I too have no idea what it is, might be...????
If anyone wants boxes of 'interesting bits' & can make it to my house, the wife would
be very grateful if you took some away. Bring a vehicle with a large boot though. lol
-
Last pictures before the comp. proper.
The primer applied.
-
Got it….it’s a fruit juicer!
-
It's miracle of future technology.... whatever it is... :? lol
-
Will it have some hazard stripes when done?
Looks like a mean bit of industrial kit or a gun emplacement (think I mentioned the latter prior).
Cool stuff either way!

You don’t get a fine in the post, just immediately shot off the road. lol

Well, few (if any) repeat offenders. lol lol lol
-
Picture(s) sent, well I tried a composite one.
If that does not work/is not acceptable pleas let me know & I'll resend a single one. Many thanks for your help.
-
It is even more impressive primed.
-
Thanks Snitchy.

Star Trek screenwriters would have fun coming up with technobabble to describe it :D
