I'm going to build a Gasland Gear Phase tower, with placement for some LED matrix that will be driven by an Arduino. Not sure exactly of how exactly I'm going to build the tower, but likely will be concrete look with foam
-
Think I'm going to base it off this awesome comms tower in Vancouver. It hexagonal and has 3 radio horn antennas (you can see another view of a similar horn here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horn_antenna#/media/File:Hogg_horn_antennas.jpg). I believe these specific horns are no longer functional, but uncertain

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

That's a nice design to base on, should look grand. 8) 8) 8)

If the Soviet Union did SciFi that is exactly the aesthetic. I am a little envious that I didn't think of it first!
-
And we have a tower! It is made of foam, cut on my Proxxon with guides that I designed and cut out on my Silhouette. I assembled it and added the chicken wire as rebar, then a coat of spackle/wall compound. It will eventually sit on a 6x6 Open Lock 3D printed tile. The tower is ~10 in tall, not including the 7mm of the base (which I'm not counting, as it is just that - a base).
-
Here is a photo of the rebar detail and the cutting guides.
I haven't started sanding the piece yet, so the spackle looks rough
-
I also thought I would post a few of the inspiration images. Or should I say terrifying images I found when I googled "crumbling concrete". Seriously, one of those is a highway support
-
And lastly, (or really firstly) the cutting guides and Inkscape I mocked them up in, as well my original notes. I usually start my designs on paper, let's me think out the key parts and do the rough math, before I transferred to Inkscape to mock it out and then into FreeCAD for final work.

Looks great so far, I love the rebar detail.
-
Impressive.
-
Coming along fine there mate.
-
This is shaping up to be a great piece.
-
Have some concrete evidence that this is going to be a fine terrain piece! :)
Pun aside, the piece is coming along nicely and I look forward to seeing it painted!

Got the unfinished but glued together tower onto the table today - became a fantastic snipers tower for my scifi table
-
The rebar is a nice touch.
-
Very glad to have a bit of an extension. As you can see this is where my entry & hobby desk are currently living - yes, that is my bathroom. My wife and I are playing renovate something competition & replacing all our floors
-
And I'm out, so here's a few larger pictures of the painted but as of yet unfinished tower
-
Love the graffiti.

Love the graffiti.
This was all paint pen. Sadly I didn't get to finish the stuff I was doing in Inkscape to print on decals
You should come south for a game sometime - see the terrain in person.
-
Ooh lovely rust that rebar weathering looks spot on

that's an excellent idea. :D

Love the graffiti.
I second that, looks great.

Depending on the surface you may have been better of with this version. I always have trouble putting decals on not entirely smooth surfaces.

Surface is plaster on top of foam - I'll give it a shot and report back
-
Probably a redundant question, but have you used a product such as Microsol?
Once the decal is applied, brush this stuff on; it will melt the decal sheet, forcing it to closely form itself to the surface it's on. Multiple applications might be required, but I've yet to find a surface where this does not work :)

I have - works wonders. Not tried it yet with this piece, will update it when I do (been focused on my hellscape board for a bit)
