So, as I said in my intro post, it's been a really long time since I painted, and I feel like it will help me stay motivated if I keep a log, so here goes Project 1. Be gentle with me guys as you veterans won't fid anything exciting here, the painting will need some work, there won't be any kit bashing, and you will no doubt have seen the figures before, but I'm on a journey here lol
I used to play, back in the day, Napoleonic 15mm Prussian, some Vietnam skirmish, 25mm Medieval skirmish, and then went over to SF and Fantasy before the need to earn a living and build a career put all that behind me. All were in metal back then and plastic soldiers were frowned on. So for my first project I wanted to try something not too complicated or that I could possibly get bored of by too much repetition. I am starting from scratch remember, so having to take a fresh look at figure manufacturers, paints, rules sets, basing, everything! I found a lot of posts on here that were really useful (thanks all!) and eventually I settled on 28mm Vikings with the plan to create a Warband for Saga. Arm Painter for paints. Victrix for my starting point.
So, everything purchased to get me started, a trial run on a few 25mm medieval I had in the loft, and now after a couple of weekends actually working on the project, here's the first unit to come out the other side. Clearly I have work to do on painting eyes (though the guy at the back is quirky enough I'm going to keep him) but apart from that I'm pretty happy.

The victrix minis are a joy to build and paint, and once you have a few kits so many options for kitbashing. Looks like you are off to a good start, as they look great. SAGA is quite a fun game as well, and with a decent number of players around.

Looking good mate! 👍

good minis

I'm on a journey here lol
Aren't we all?!
Really nice work! I especially love those leafy bases!
-
I think these look great by any stretch, not just for a relative beginner. Well done!

Thanks guys, appreciate the encouragement

Great weekend, not only did I finish the first group of Bondi Warriors, but also the Command group and a another Hearthguard, this time the 'hard men'. These guys are clearly berserkers! Really enjoying the numerous different poses I can get out of these Victrix figures, two more groups of Hearthguard and another of Bondi Warriors already assembled, and started in on Archers from the Victrix Dark Age Archers and Slingers.

Latest progress has added another group of Hearthguard and the first group of Levy archers (Victrix Dark Age Archers and Slingers). Now working on one more set of each of Hearthguards, Warriors, and Levy.
-
Also did a couple of Gripping Beast specials, a Priest and a Sorcerer (for using the Vikings in Age of Magic):
-
Those all look excellent! I don’t know much about Saga and how Viking forces perform in those rules, but your collection will definitely look great on the table.

Lovely Vikings ya got there!

Thanks guys!

Two of the last three units completed, Hearthguards and Warriors:
-
Here we go then, the final unit, slings and arrows (of outrageous fortune)
-
The full army for Age of Viking is done

Nice work Dean.
