Title: Raid on Innsmouth - Part 1
Post by: mikos khan on October 31, 2023, 04:32:28 AM
This last Friday we put on a game that I have wanted to do for a long time - a raid the clean out the fishmen from the seaside village of Innsmouth (of Lovecraft fame) by a force of pulp era heroes (The Shadow, the Phantom, Rocketeer, Dick Tracy etc.) assisted by some military & police units.  The defenders mainly consisted of a large number of generic cultist figures (because we didn't have any actual fishmen cultists) along with some D&D frogmen, fantasy fishmen and a few monsters.  The game opened with a general advance by the good guys right into an attempted ambush by the KKK fishmen that unfortunately for them was disrupted by Sgt. Rock throwing a grenade in their hiding place. This suppressed them long enough for the Rocketeer and accompanying infantry to make short work of them with submachine gun fire.  A few of the KKK managed to escape the building and attempt a flamethrower attack but all of the poorly maintained flamethrowers malfunctioned and exploded frying the operators.  The police then took the lead and led by Dick Tracy advanced through the center of town where they encountered a massive counterattack by the Blu Klux Klan and Black Legion led by the villianous Crimson Hood.  After a multi-turn melee (assisted by the US Marines and Captain America) the police forces defeated the counterattack and the Crimson Hood was finished off.
The good guys next closed in on a seedy motel where a number of sacrificial victims were being held but the dreaded Sea Hag emerged from hiding and supported by a unit of actual fishmen engaged Captain America and the Marines in a massive brawl which ended with the elimination of both the hag and her fishy friends (and Bucky).  While this was occurring a unit of Froglodytes (aka D&D frogmen) a Sea Serpent and a mutated Sea Cucumber attacked the police and a unit of Massachusetts militia and after inflicting some serious losses on the aforementioned units were finally eliminated.  We called the game at this point since we only got about halfway through scenario and it was getting late.  Stay tuned for Part 2 next week!

Wow, quite the epic: every time the heroes dealt with one enemy something slimier and eviller turned up.

Not being a Lovecraft fan I had to look up 'Innsmouth'. I can see how you based the game on the story.

Fishman and flaming oil, what could possibly go wrong????  Was one of the flamethrowers loaded with batter?  Another with tartar sauce, or if English, Malt Vinegar.

I had not realized that the thing that was so hard to kill (40 wounds) was a mutant sea cucumber.

That looks like a lot of fun. I like the conglomeration of good guys saving the world from the fishmen!

Weird WW!!
The Captain America and Bucky figures are the mainstays of our heroes.  We play heroes as powerful but not invincible.  The sidekick always takes the hits before the hero, which is why Bucky rarely survives a game.  We are on the 8th or ninth replacement Bucky now.

We don't allow Superduperman.  He was intentionally priced as "impossibly expensive."  We do field Breitbart, who is very strong and dangerous in melee.  He was an actual 20's and 30's strongman in Poland and the United States.  He was known as a stunt to have pushed a train, climbed a tall building holding an anchor and did wear a cape on occasion.  He died of an infection caused by a cut on his knee that turned gangrenous (Kryptonite?).  He had laid on the bed of nails, had two doors placed on him and then a car drove over the doors.  He was fine from the stunt, but cut his knee getting off the bed of nails.

Check out some of our other games posted by Mikos Khan,  You can see the figures there along with Breitbart and others.
