Title: VSF or not VSF?
Post by: Thunderchicken on November 12, 2009, 06:11:54 PM
I saw this on TTGN and I'm thinking of adding it to the laboratory I'm putting together:

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2009/11/09/31281

Had a chat with Malamute and we think it has most of the ingredients for VSF.

What do you lot think?

It's almost there, but I'd say it needs work. Do a google search for Datamancer and that'll show you what you need to work on.

In fact, here you go

I agree. It's what Ming uses to spy on his enemies, and for keeping up with who's been kicked off Strictly.

You are all of course, correct, I don't know what came over me when I agreed with him. Its time to move this to the Pulp or Future Wars board where it belongs. ;)

Yep. Definitely Adeptus Mechanicus design  lol

Why me Lord?

interesting

I thought VSF always includes some victorian gothic style, while Flash Gordon is more raygun gothic, which is some 20 years apart, stylistically speaking

so this Adeptus Mechanicus design in my eyes would be more VSF

do I have a different concept?

Not enough rivets and no funnel.

I hate to be wishy/washy on this but I would have to say you could go either way on this one. Just take a little tweeking to make VSF..

Where'd you put the coal in?

Good point. The little spiky bits on the top look a bit Victorian, as does the overall booth shape. The rest has a shiny metallic 1930s vibe.

Where'd you put the coal in?

oil fired steam engines were invented before 1870.
does it have to be coal?
maybe there is a small firebox door on the back?

More like 40K to me. Not that I am the expert on neither VSF nor 40K. Computer screen doesn't say Steem Punk technology to me. A VSF GI would be a robotic arm with a ink pen and well tracing symbols on scrolling papers. That or brass dials and plaques with engraved symbols.

Agreed  - NEEDS MORE RIVETS or something to make it look a little less pulpy.

I like it, I don't know if it's really VSF, but I like it.

Maybe this is what hovers on the cusp of VSF in Shropshire. ;)

Looks like a Papal ATM.

Well I have an idea how to make it more VSF...

Put it up a floor, or build a big cavern underneath it, and have a massive, MASSIVE, engine underneath it with lots of engineers and labourers keeping it running.

Then 2 wee wires coming up through the floor into the machine above.
 :)

The only bit for me that doesn’t fit VSF is the small screen on the control panel at the front.
File that off and replace it with some gauges and a couple of levers and you are good to go, with a suitable brass and mahogany paint scheme.

Definitely needs a Dread Lever on the front panel, to make it look like a papal one-armed-bandit. That should sort it out.

I have the strange idea of adding some sort of roofing tiles like the sort of dimond shaped roof shingles, couple of big cogs and levers to one side and a steam engine to the other the screen comes the input slot for punch cards or a large type writer.

Right, I had a meeting with me and decided I'm going to buy a couple and see what I can do with them. Watch this space............. Going by my track record you might be watching for a while.  ;)
