I painted up a small caravan of post apocalyptic water merchants, here they come:

They line up their vehicles neatly. On the left is an alcohol truck (ok, so they sell more than water). In the middle a warter truck and on the right a support vehicle.

The alcohol truck is a 1:50(?) fire engine (Cararama) with the back replaced with a farm toy. The water truck is a 1:43 Unimog-ish street sweeper (Cararama) converter to a water truck (plastic rod for the taps on either side, extra armour from MagicSculp. The support vehicle is a converted 1:43 BMW X5 (Cararama).

All vehicles were painted in different shades of blue. The merchants wanted their vehicles to be blue to make them recognisable as water merchants, and used whatever blue paint they could still find. One tin often wasn't enough for a whole vehicle.

Flint takes care of the alcohol sales, one of the greatest money-makers.

Delilah gets the men thirsty for the cleanest water in the desert.
Dick makes sure no-one touches the money (or the vehicles).
Bill has the same job as Dick...
...and has a bit of an attention issue.

Cor sells the water, and makes sure everyone pays.
I added lots of gold because I figured merchants would like to show off their wealth. All the models are Kallistra and the only conversion I have done is cut off Cors mohawk. They are a bit shiny because I messed up with the varnish, and the varnish is now so thick I don't dare varnisgh them again.
Enjoy! 8)

Awesome vehicles and awesome idea! ;D

Nice to see close ups of those kalistra mini's thanks.
Great ideas on the vechiles i may steal, keep it up. :)

Nice work. Just wondering what rules you intend to use?

very nice work great detail

For now I just made them for the heck of it (starting with the vehicles, then the merchants themselves). I think I might use them for some special scenarios of High Octane games. The vehicles have already made an appearance in a recent zombie game (not posted). Otherwise such vehicles and models always find their way to the tabletop one way or another 8)
Thanks all 8)

PIL, this is great stuff! makes me want to do one of my own asap!
can i pick your mighty brain for some water/booze convoy thoughts?
did y'all consider a small gas/petrol hauler, or tank trailer pulled by another smaller vehicle, to go with the other vehicles?
and what about a gun truck for some BFG support/protection for the valuable booze/water tankers and all of that wealth the crew is wearing and carrying with them?
again this is excellent stuff that y'all are turning out!

I did consider a small truck, but I don't really have one. I only have a large fuel truck which I may eventually paint up as a water carrier.
I also considered some extra defense vehicles but I have not figured out how to do it best. For our High Octane games cars with platforms that models can stand on are best, but that style doesn't really fit with the rest of the vehicles, as I don't think merchants are likely to drive around in empty vehicles when they could just as well stuff them with goods.
Anyway, I have some ideas on expanding, including building the distillery itself when I get my hands on the Urban War BioToxin plant. I was also planning on adding to the merchants with EM4 biker models.
But all those are just ideas at the moment, this was supposed to be a small detachment as you would find in a market with a few men. On the road they may pay some road gangs or mercenaries to protect them.

That is frakking awesome!!!

awesome stuff! :o

Nice work. I wait a battle report :-*

8) Wonderful Pil!
I was going to say now that you have them you have to build the distillery as well but looks like you beat me to it! ;D
-
I'd suggest a humvee or a range rover with a machine gun mounted on top, or some form of beat up old APC.
-
Well, I haven't built it yet 8)

I'll let this idea simmer a bit 8)

Great idea and nice modelling, love it!
:-*
-
Great idea - consider it stolen. :)
As mentioned nice to see the Kallistra figures "up close".
-
Excellent modelling, and a fantastic back-story too. It's projects like this that are so dangerous for me. Looking through the pictures, I found myself thinking "Well, my old west buildings could be used in a post-apocalypse game, I suppose, so maybe I should get a few minis and some die-casts, you know, just to have them and to make a start, you know..."
Excellent!
-
You and your damn vehicles! :-*
And I mean that in a most respectable way!!!
Awesome set of wheels!!! :-*

They are truly beautiful, you have done really well there. I especially like the weathered finish, the first photo had me thinking it was a shot from a filmset with full scale vehicles!
Very impressive :)
How do Kallistra measure up to copplestone and EM4? Just by comparison with the vehicles i'd say they would be of a similar heft, and I may have to invest in some...
-
Lovely stuff!

Wow! These are great!
My friend Jonas is also doing water merchants for his Post Apo gang,... but you're alchohol idea is too great to pass up! I think my scruntian slavers are about to take up a new trade!!!!
Unfortunately we've yet to find some rules that continue to be good fun. One of our gang tried making some himself (with our help) but they sucked.

Thanks, Jonas' merchants were what gave me the idea so credit for that goes to him 8):

We use our own High Octane rules which are mostly based on Gorkamorka. If you like a Necromunda-style skirmish and campaign system coupled with vehicles you'll like it as well. You can find our rules adjustments here:
http://members.lycos.nl/Pil3/Miniatures/High%20Octane/
You will need the Gorkamorka books to use it though. I'm working on a better version of the rules but don't hold your breath.

The Kallistra models are a bit larger than EM4, more like GW models in scale, the weapons are also quite bulky. I'm not really sure how well they mix in a group but as a separate group these work fine to me.

Great looking stuff, thanks for the pictures!

Even more cool post aapoc stuff, great!
Your photos are always an inspiration, thanks.

Great looking figs and vehicles there. Nice idea, thanks for sharing! I'll have to mark them down as good research elements! :D

I managed to get the scenario PDF from the link but the High Octane PDF is giving me some trouble. Just so that you know.

Thank you for pointing that out, I uploaded the PDF again and it seems to work now 8)
