Title: Has anyone bought this familiar space CREW?
Post by: Cacique Caribe on December 26, 2023, 05:35:08 AM
I’m curious how close they really are to “25mm”, or if they could work next to 28mm figures, like some of the Stargrave plastic boxed sets sold these days

https://www.ebay.com/itm/164266630397?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=VsPRM9UESvS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=gupOafYcTii&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Does anyone know how compatible (or not) they might be?

Thanks

Dan

They look like the old Sgt Mjr Minis figures. From memory  (and its not a great one) they are what I would class as 25/28mm - about the same size as the Foundy Copplestone Old west figures. They will be small, but not ridiculously so.

If they are Sgt Mjr Minis figures, they are very undersized. I bought them then immediately sold them because they were too small next to my other SF figs.

GF9 have a Firefly board game with miniatures of the crew, each member has two versions in the game to signify their status.

It's possible to cobble together a crew:

If you're going to buy from Battle Valor you might want to do it soon, he is going to close down for a short while, for business and sculpting new stuff.

They look pretty poor, unless it's just the photo's. Defnitely better options out there as already listed.

Guys

I went ahead and bit the bullet, and went and ordered the figures.  And what a pleasant surprise!

Size wise, they are NOT 25mm, as they are somehow listed.  They are really 28mm figures and they fit in perfectly with the Stargrave Crew plastic sets (I and II) plastic figures I bought recently.

Detail wise, it isn’t as sharp/deep as Reaper and other makes, which means they are also comparable to the shallower (some say “bland”) detail of the Stargrave plastic sets.

The faces could have been given a little more attention.  I might have to remedy that with a tiny amount of green stuff.

Those are 25mm? I just thought they were bad 15mm. Either way they are damn fugly minis in that pic.

Actually, they are the same height as the 28mm Stargrave plastic minis.

Dan
PS.  I found another Reaper figure that could work as a Mal stand-in:

RUDD STARSLIDER, SPACE SMUGGLER

I would recommend the Great Escape Games Gun Fighters plastics as a source of figures, matched with Stargrave components.

This was not an attempt at a Mal, but swapping the head and arms for something suitable will do the job.

Plus there are bowler hats suitable for Marc Sheppard's character.

Gunfighters II might provide you with parts for other characters.

Wow, those really look great!  And, as has been shown, their arms and heads are definitely mixable with those on the Stargrave sprues.

By the way, ebay and other places sell individual sprues, for those who may not need an entire box of the same Stargrave plastic minis.

It does say on the Ebay listing they are Battle Valor Games. Checking the website shows they are 28mm.
