A three player game using the homebrew rules 'Embuscada'
Bob (Flatpack) taking the Scots.
Ian (Westbury) the English &
Myself as the Irish (fighting for Napoleon)
883 = Overview of the table. British (Scots & English) would start on the right,
& have to try & take the bridge on the left before the French could blow it up.
My job as the Irish was to buy the engineers time to lay the charges.
10% was added to the chance (of successfully blowing it) for each full move I
bought them. N.B. 90% would be the absolute maximum. I think there should
always be a chance of things not working. :D If/when I diced to blow it, the further
I was below the target figure, the more damage I would do.
880/1/2 = The engineers working on the bridge. Just to point out that the figures were
in the Lead Mountain 48 hours before the game. I was happy with the quick
paint & base job.
884 = The Barn. This was to be my first line of defense. I hoped to pick off some Brits,
then leg it back to other positions. Under Embuscada actions that reduce the danger
to 'you' (running away, diving for cover etc) cost nothing, but actions like closing with the
enemy, shooting, melee etc. have to be paid for out of your action points.
My SIX brave fellows (a very nice Christmas present from my friend Dave Brooks) were
going to take on about THIRTY brits. :o :o :o
885/6 & 890 = The Scots braving the icy water & crossing the first river.
-
Meanwhile...
891/2 = The English chose to cross at the ford & advance down the road.
887/8/9 = The Irish occupying the barn area start firing, mainly at the large
number of Scots. Slowed some down, but they kept coming. :o
893/4 = The Irish begin a fighting withdrawal.
-
895 = Soggy Scots rush to occupy the vacated Barn.
896/7 = While the English advance down the road. All the while under Irish musketry.
-
As the British were about to get close enough to fire on the Engineers I opted to try
and blow the bridge.
898/899/900 = KABOOM !!!!!! It worked, not as well as I hoped (not very much below
the target %) so I adjudged it would be passable to infantry, but not
horses or carts. Should slow the British army up a little.
-
901/2 = The choice of the Irish is now:-
Struggle over what remains of the bridge (& be a wonderful target)
Swim for it (& be a wonderful target) or
melt away into the terrain. I think I'd choose the latter. :D
903 = The Scots are now...Cock-a-Hoop. ;)
904/5 = But still disciplined soldiers.
Fewer picture of the English, but that was because they were the other side of the table.
I hope Bob & Ian will add their pictures & comments.

Ah that bridge has figured in our games many times. Never been blown up before though I don't think?

Thanks Bob, always nice to see the game from (slightly) different angles. :)

Ta MG. It is nice to play with pretty toys & scenery.

The redoubtable English braved the musketry of the perfidious Irish - dammed colonials but we were never going to get to that bridge :)

but we were never going to get to that bridge :)
I don't know Ian, you were coming into musket range when I blew it.
Maybe a rush on my first position might have got you there quicker.
You'd probably have taken more casualties though. ??? ??? ???
-
Great looking table and figures.
-
Nice terrain, very nice river!
I especially like the ground under one arch of the bridge, very realistic.

Thanks Syrinx.
Nice terrain, very nice river!
Thank you Patrice. The river is from Last Valley, as are the trees & hedge lines.

Oil tel yer dis, young fellow me lad, It wuz us six agin turty six of dem!
We 'eld em til de Frenchies blew de bridge. 'More foight' is it?
Come here til I give ye a tump! lol lol lol
My big worry was that the English & Scots would ignore the (very) thin skirmish line & go after the real prize.
They could have been taking pot shots at the engineers on the bridge after 4 moves. Thankfully, like the Bull
in the Spanish ring, they became obsessed with the 'cape' as their enemy. ;)

Lovely looking game, as always, lads. What scale are the figures?

28mm. a nice scale for skirmishes, though if I was starting all over again I would be tempted by 40mm.
-
Thanks. I thought they looked like 40mm or something bigger than 28s anyway. Nice painting either way.
