Title: Warzone and Mutant Chronicles by Manu Miniatures
Post by: Manu Miniatures on 06 February 2024, 11:45:19 AM
Old Warzone stuff were the first minis that I ever had and first Warzone Eternal Kickstarter aroused in me the need to  paint some old metal chunks.

Positively glorious.  :o

I absolutely love the vibrancy of the colours and the metals in particular really evoke that classic MC/Warzone illustration style.

I'm an old fan of Mutant Chronicles and Warzone, and I've painted several miniatures too (old and new).
Your paint job is really superb. Excellent Non Metallic Metal and Freehand technique. I suppose you will use these miniatures for collection display not for play.

Thanks for all comments

@ Katsuhiko JiNNai
I notice your work,  54mm MC minis look pretty cool.

All minis are properly varnished and with little care they should survive ocasional game. I have plans regarding stuff I paint, that not exclude gaming. It will take some time before I'll be ready to reveal a little. I need to prepare at least two small forces and my hobby activiety right now is dominated by painting a lot of Kingdom Death: Monster.

Soon I should have everything that I want to start painting two full squads of Sea Lions 1ed.

Absolutely stunning paintjobs!

Some of the best painted Warzone miniatures I've seen  :-*

I've been a fan of these sculpts for some years now, after finding them fugly to the max back in the nineties, and your painting does the sculpts a lot of favours. I've got a largeish squad of Sea Lions painted up myself, but not as Warzone miniatures, but rather as generic corporate troopers for use anywhere where I need the presence of an Evil Corporation©.

Can't wait to see what you do with yours and your superior painting skills :)

The helmet and shoulder pads on the Trencher must be the most convincing metal effect I have ever seen, positively glorious.

As for the Stahler mini, is that actually the old Target/Heartbreaker figure? I have a used one lying about unpainted somewhere, and I don't remember it being so imposing. Magnificent painting on that one as well, obviously.

No idea, around 20h maybe. I jump a lot between projects and spend 1-2h in a week on Warzone minis.

Holy crap, those are some stellar PJ!

I'd been eyeing some warzone models a few years ago, as there looks really started to appeal to me.
they're both something very special and very much of their time.
Looks like tons of fun to paint.
Too many other projects, of course.

But you just keep painting them and I'll continue to enjoy the pretty pictures.

The plan is to paint even more Warzone goodies, and later I'll try to create and share some lead adventures.

Those old minis are surprisingly easy and fun to paint. Smooth painting goes with a lot of practice, but good paints helps. Not so long ago I discovered Scalecolor Artist paints (in tubes) - they are pretty neat.

I am a longtime fan of Warzone. Started with 1st edition. Have huge armies of about everything. You did an GREAT job on them! I look forward to seeing other figs as you complete them.

There were some pretty poor figs released. But most figs were decent to good for the time and had a lot of character. I love em! I bought 400 packs when they were being dumped by stores.

Thanks

Glad that you like the colors. Stalker armour derived from trencher shoulder pads and helmet. I made a crazy mix of 3 or 4 paints that I don't even remember now, fortunately I found VMC 70.897 Bronze Green - exact grey color as my crazy mix.

Actually, I have in my collection 1.ed. Venusian Marshal, perfect to paint mini based on another P. Bonner art, but pimped V-Ranger will be #9861, technically a Sargent converted to Captain/ Bauhaus Doomtrooper.

Art from old Warzone book that I posted was painted by Alex Horley.

Simon Bisley did covers for Golgotha comicbooks, she look a little bit different there. If I'll have oportunity to paint another Golgotha mini, maybe I'll try do something closer to Bisley art.

Superb work all round.
My favourite warzone early minis sculptor is Werner Klocke
( the one who did Golgotha) and Paul Bonner as an artist which you do justice to.

Tha latter minis were very nice also with slimmer non exagerated pysiques.

Btw have you painted the Venusian Marshal?
Thanks for sharing

I didn't do much on Venusian Marshal, he is very low on my to-do list right now. He took a bath some time ago and thats it.

Pimping random Venusian Ranger fares a little better, he is now in conversion process. I need to figure out how to make pommel of the sword, sculpt somewhat natural looking hand and cover all of it with extended cloak.

My painting priorities are now with completly different minis (mostly Kingdom Death: Monster), on the Warzone side plan look like this:

1. I have a bunch of minis from Cybertronic, Dark Legion  and one very old Imperial Trencher sculpt. I'll try to show some WIP pics soon, but I'll post more of them after the new year.

2. Pimping V-Ranger

3. Sea Lions - I made bases for two squads of 6, plus 3 more bases for individuals. I want to paint skin on at least half of them before taking pics.

4. For now V-Marshal hold this place, but it might change.

Sorry, I did go through the thread, but may have missed. Do have/have you painted an ezoghoul?

Weirdly, in the day, I had some repurposing ideas there as well.

Dr. Diana is pretty cool mini. She look like a women, this is not always the case with old sculpts. Perfect for a role of technician/ scientist. I think that mini is available on princeaugust.ie

Similarly to V-Marshal, I have a  1 ed. Ezoghoul in my collection - unpainted and unassembled.

New batch of Warzone minis is in the making for some time and here is the first finished one:

Before Warzone there were three boardgames set in Mutant Chronicles setting:

FotC is definitely the rarest.

The symbol on the shoulder pad is the logo of Imperial Megacorporation combined with military rank.

Forces included in both FotC and BB are Imperial vs Dark Legion, hence similar iconography.

[...]I am going to copy your blue and white scheme for Doctor Diana.[...]

If you like it, please do so. Just want to point out that it was early WIP. Blue clothes will be little lighter, and what is white will be very dark blue.

Thanks for all the comments

Here is an attempt to organize all my Warzone related activities:

1. Individual miniatures:
- Old Trencher Sergeant, Imperial,
- Dr. Diana, Cybertronic,
- Razide, Dark Legion,
These are finished (all pics on previus page).

- Attilla III Cuirassier, Cybertronic (WIP pic somewhere in the thread)
- mysterius Dark Legion mini,
- another mysterius Dark Legion mini.

2. Small Dark Legion army, I'll be working on it after project 1.

3. Sea Lions - this is a side project so it will take me a long time. I hope that some day in the future small SL platoon became small Capitol army. I have Heavy Infantry Captain finished and Free Marine Hero with a little bit of paint on it. Adding HI and FM squads should be the next step.

4. Plans for distant future:
- 4.1  Pimping V-Ranger: I made a little bit of progress but the conversion turned out to be too difficult for me. I don't give up, but this project will have to wait.
- Free Marine Hero,
(https://i.imgur.com/LrBPpkd.jpeg)
- V-Marshal,
- Ezoghoul,
- a ton of other stuff I have hoarded
