I recently picked up Warlord Games' Pike & Shotte Epic rules. The first thing that struck me was 'I can use these for my 28mm sized Restoration Era armies'. My armies, French and Dutch, were based for the old WRG DBR rules. This meant they were not in 'units' as such, but the elements were organised into 20 figure pike and shot regiments.
I was keen to try it out, so arranged a game at Alan Perry's. 'You host and I'll bring all the figures'. I've played a lot of Black Powder with Alan so we were both familiar with the rules 'engine', just needed to learn the little changes.
The game went really well, I'm pleased with how the rules work with my collection.
What was nice as well was Alan kept the figures on the table for a little photo shoot. He doesn't usually bother with non-Perry Miniatures collections, so it was excellent for him to do that. You can view the photos on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/perryminiatures (https://www.facebook.com/perryminiatures)
I've posted one here.
Rick joined us in the game, and when I suggested a rematch we played again yesterday at his place, Warlord's John came along for the game as well.
As an aside, I love Alan's cloud background in the photo below. 10 years ago when I was taking the 1672 game to Wargames Shows, I had this idea that I never followed up of having a back-drop to the game based on the Dutch Masters landscape paintings. This is how I envisioned the games looking, funny how things turn up!

I completely agree that the cloudy back drop looks amazing and certainly adds something to the shots.

Any chance that Northstar might be adding to this range - Generals, skirmishers etc?
-
Those backgrounsd definitely sell it!

Bravo, that's quite a game.

Yes, just need an extra sculptor. The guys working for us now are busy on other projects.

The final photo, with the reflections in the river, is quite amazing!

Need to visit the Facebook page and click on the +21 photos images to see larger photos. Cool stuff. Oh, and at the end you get an image of all five "graybeards" playing the game - even if one of them is short a beard! :D

That's very nice, probably as good as I've seen, almost looks like a painting.
Cheers

not if I have any choice in the matter.
the pics here are a decent enough size, anyway, particularly if opened in separate tabs.
tbh, while the cloudscape images are great icing on the cake, it's the figures and terrain that do it for me. Superb.

Yeah, skip by that...

It is, indeed, an exceptionally nice layout.
