With plenty of projects in progress, I started yet a new one. This time a near future/ scifi Colonial Defence Force for service in the colonies. The force will be low tech scifi with trucks, tanks and infantry along with some attack helicopters and drones.
As I wanted to stay frugal I sourced cheap diecast vehicles with a more or less scifi angular look where possible and will be repainting them in army green. As this is one of many projects the paintjobs will be basic but good enough for the tabletop. The vehicles will include multipurpose trucks, tanks and maybe even apc´s, tracked artillery, support and engineering vehicles. Infantry will be the Wargames Atlantic male and female cannon fodder miniatures that I had already laying around.
So first up are three repainted diecast trucks originally painted as military ambulances. Now repurposed as multipurpose trucks with armored cabin containing for example a command post, troop transport, supplies etc and armed with a heavy duty machinegun. Quite happy with the result.

Promising start! Looking forward to seeing how it evolves!

Looks good.
I'm planning to do this in 15mm/18mm scale, so went with Modern/Ultramodern Cold War, West Germans, since with their really big, shoulder-fired RPG, they look pretty SciFi to me.

Thanks, well that sounds great too! Looking forward in seeing your approach!

Quick work-in-progress, some toy tanks in primer.

Some WIP pictures of the infantry and support weapons. All miniatures are male and female cannon fodder by Wargames Atlantic with some arms and weapons from Warlord Games.
Mostly the arms without weapons and the PIAT's which looked suitable low tech and had them laying around. The soldiers with kepis are armed with the weapons from the Death Fields single conversions sprue. These are more like police/ vehicle crews etc
The mortars are from Games Workshop while the heavy machineguns are toys made to go with some kind of lego figures. Last but not least some AT mines made from spare toy wheels.

Finished the vehicle park a while ago and will add some jeeps soon but forgot to share this project progress. At the moment ready for deployment as I search for some weathering guides.
- Three trucks
- Three trucks with heavy machineguns
- Two APC´s with heavy machineguns
- Three main battle tanks

The tanks and troops look awesome - you're going to be very busy painting!

I love this project. Excellent use of cheap toys.
I've thought a few times about trying those Lego-compatible next weapons and your use of them certainly makes a good case for it.

Thanks, opted for the lego pieces as they were cheap. They are a bit large but suitable for scifi in my opinion. Have been working on the miniatures too nothing fancy but getting there.

Time flies but some progress on the soldiers and their pick-ups.
-
Finished this army today, might add some tufts later but good enough to wrap things up.

Love the support weapons...! Looking good all around. :)

You should be really pleased with yourself - you've achieved just what you set out to, and they look fantastic laid out en masse like that. I admire your perseverance!

Thanks much appreciated, love the heavy weapons too!
