Some time ago I decided on reorganising my fantasy forces only to discover that somehow I had very few dwarf soldier units. Many characters and NPCs but hardly a single unit. So I ordered a few packs of em4 plastic Dwarves. And also I wanted the units to be different. Some figures in the photos below are converted using bits fro other plasic figure sets and there are at least 2 metal figures amongst them.
Ancient Roman Auxiliary dwarves of the II Auxilia Cohors Nanum Neradhorum

Mediaeval dwarves (their leader is annoyed that he is still awaiting a standard)

I like those a lot! Your new units provide a great demonstration of how versatile these classic monopose figures can be. I used a lot of em-4 dwarves in my own army (and will continue to), and even mounted some on ponies to add some cavalry.

Could not agree more.
They are great for conversion and unit filling etc.
mixing in some of the metals as well helps give the units command/hero etc and they look good on the table
Well done with them. Always good to see what someone else's take on them is.

I have been very remiss in not posting photographs of the War Host of Khar Boldohr.
This is probably the least expensive fantasy host as the whole lot cost about £55. Almost all figures are Em4 with parts from the spares box and a few old metal figures from the lead mountain. Artillery and possibly air power to follow.

Four units of spears, three of crossbows, two of axes, one of gunners and a mounted unit of Bodyguards.
The War Leader Graf Rorin and his escort mounted on Poundland bears.

I agree, that’s a grand war host! As before, I like the variety you have achieved in spite of using the old monopose figures for most of the troops.
I need to get back to work on my own dwarves soon. Maybe in the new year.

Fearsome looking host!
I really like how they came out.
I'm in a similar position as you with 150 of these dwarfs staring at me from my backlog.
I like how you modified the crossbows; what did you use to make the look like that?

The crossbows are modified from surplus weapon arms from Mantic (Kings of War) Naiads

that my brother gave me a long time ago. I just clipped the old crossbow cross arms off the dwarf and replaced it with a trimmed bow from the Naiad arms. Very simple and quick. Most of the officers and characters are converted from the axe dwarf with his right arm and/or head clipped off and replaced by a suitable arm from Oathmark or other plastic dwarves or fro suitable human arms.

It might be simple but it's very effective.
I might have to come up with something similar for mine.

I very nearly grabbed some of these to toss in with my Battle Masters project - glad I didn't...as that whole project wore me the hell out...
