Trying to do some wetland/marsh scatter terrain and just did a quick test of uv resin over static grass in a hollow. I didn’t go the whole hog and put texture paste down, so it’s straight onto some scrap plastic, thoughts…?

Looks good to me! Good enough that it’s almost a shame that it wasn’t textured and painted around the edges, it could have gone straight into service. Any warping on the piece? (Doesn’t look like it from the pic’s angle.) That’s always my biggest fear with that sort of terrain piece.
-
No, I use quite thick foampvc for basing. Warping is something I just don’t want to deal with.
-
Yep that looks suitably marsh like to me, and like that it has some variation in height across the piece, rather than just thinking marshes are flat.
-
I think that works well :)
-
Yup looks ok. I’d be tempted to dab some paint where the white is showing through…..you can a,ways dry brush back the grass colours if needs be. Looks suitably wet!
-
Agreed, it looks pretty good.
The fact that you can see 'plant life' beneath the surface is a bonus. I also like the way it reduces boundaries between the water and the surrounding terrain. Too often we see a brown water covered puddle slap bang in the middle of a flocked/ tufted area. This looks more natural to me.
-
It looks great. I'd call that a pretty successful test.
-
cheers all. Primarily I wanted to see what would happen to the static grass. lol
it's not very level, but you only really notice it's bumpy close up. could pass for ripples from the wind I suppose.
It has now present another dilema, that thin flat look is really nice and quite different to what I was originally going for. Also pondering if a series of small pools would be better than one massive one, although I'm also toying islands of raised land in the water and wooden walkways...
-
Good solid test. I tried to do something similar for one of the BSCs. Maybe it will give you some more ideas.

Right, wondering what else they need before the resin gets poured.
I tried other colour tufts and flowers, but didn’t quite look right. Rocks don’t feel right either, maybe some fine flock for low bushes or something…
-
My immediate thought is small trees - something like alder or willow.
...and thanks for the inspiraton - I've been planning scenery similar to this for my dinosaurs and was unsure about how to go about it, now I ain't!
-
I wanted it reasonably flat for storage, but I'm just not happy with how this is going. May need a rethink.
EDIT: I've ordered some lichen, think that might give the dead look I want. might need to add a sunken something, wheels or something

Or maybe a bog body if you can find something suitable.
-
Just avoid anything clitoris like for the two on the left. ;)
-
Ok, resin and tufts aplenty. A stray barrel and some logs… I really don’t like the straw coloured tufts though, far too regular. They may be coming off…

A mix of light and dark green tufts would bulk out the straw and not be out of place for an autumn setting. Should negate the need to remove the other tufts.
-
yeah, I've a mix of dead and autumnal at the moment... it's more the fact the WSS tufts are all exactly the same size and shape.
The mininatur and geek gaming ones I've used are a more random and varied lot. I'm thinking replacing them with similar colour, but just not the WSS ones. Never buying them again.
-
Add some small bushes that will break things up.
-
lol there are some there...
-
Ah, my eyesight fails me. lol
That said, they blend into the surroundings too well. A little variety in colour and size might break it up a bit. Depending on where you are setting this scene, some reeds against the wet bits might help as well.
All in all though they look pretty damn good as is.
-
I’m calling them done. It’s been ages to finish these, what with limited space and waiting for various layers of grass and resin to set. The new tufts helped I think, much more variety in shape.

The new tufts certainly give it some variety. Looking very nice.
-
They look quite good to me! I’ll be bookmarking this for inspiration for future wetland and pond builds.
-
Nice job Chris, they look the part to me :)
-
Excellent work! Bit of inspiration to try making some of my own.
-
Thanks gents. There’s stuff I’d do differently if I were to do more, but I’m happy with them as is.
-
They look grand :)
-
Pretty boggy to me, I could use a few of those :)
-
Lovely :-*

Those look good. Not been doing much scenery recently but a few of these would fill a gap in my terrain collection...
