Based on a Manga - judging from the uniforms set in the early 20th Century.

I made two attempts to watch the movie, but unfortunately I fell asleep each time. The first movie scenes take place in Manchuria during the Russian-Japanese war. This reminded me that I still have Empress miniatures from the series and I painted Japanese infantry at the weekend. In that sense, the movie left an impression on me.  :)

I wonder if it is as silly as the Manga and Anima series.  ::)

Well I would say try watching the anime, since its likely better. I have seen the anime, so that isn't a  blind recommend and it is pretty fun. That said Golden Kamuy is mostly "The Joy of Cooking: 19th century Japanese Survivalist edition"  with a man hunt+ battle for buried treasure plot thrown on set in a brief period  of instability in the Hokkaido region, its got action sure particularly later on but a good chunk of the time its about surviving and cooking in the great outdoors during winter with a bit suspense now and than.
