Title: AVBCW - Durham - Battle of Barlow Village
Post by: Luddite on May 01, 2024, 11:03:29 AM
Last night we concluded the latest action around Durham.  Chopwell Communist positions came under attack from the Lord's Alliance of Lord Lambton's Hounds and the Gateshead 'Germans'.

Day 1 the Lord's Alliance attacked.

Day 2 the Reds counterattacked.

It was a jolly good romp all round.
No cows were harmed during the battles.

Sounds a hoot - did it play out at the Durham club?

At Durham Wargames Group, yes.  https://durhamwargames.co.uk/ (https://durhamwargames.co.uk/)

We've had an extended AVBCW campaign running on and off for years now.  https://luddite1811.blogspot.com/search/label/A%20Very%20British%20Civil%20War (https://luddite1811.blogspot.com/search/label/A%20Very%20British%20Civil%20War)

The main fighting has been between the Chopwell Communists, Lord Lambton's 'Hounds' (his private army), the Gateshead 'Germans', and Lord Percy's Tenentry (north of the Tyne mostly, but they come south of the river to help deal with the powerful Chopwell forces).

Its also drawn in a few others.  The Northumberland Freedom Fighters were involved early on, but are now contained to the north by Lord Percy. The BUF saw some early action but have been tied up in Newcastle with many local rebellions and troubles. We've had a good few LDV crews, and some itinerant Socialist forces turn up for a scrap too.  Durham itself has yet to be touched as the Anglican League have it heavily garrisoned, and they refuse to come out and fight in the field (nobody has, as yet, made an AL force!)

Well, the action around Barlow was indeed quite the scrum!  What happens now?  Will the Reds push on, or will the Lord's Alliance exact some measure of revenge?
