Title: Sigilist and Enchanters workshop
Post by: snitcythedog on 10 May 2024, 03:07:53 PM
Starting a new project for my fantasy city.  First some scratch built book cases and a desk.  Detailed out with books and scrolls made using the tutorial from Araboths World.  https://abarothsworld.com/ (https://abarothsworld.com/)
Just posting some photos without much of an explanation.

Love the rolled up scrolls on the cross shelves (way better than stuffed on flat ones).

Not going to open / read one though!

Thank you all for the kind words.  I have finished another piece to go into this build.  Card and stencil paper construction.  Pretty chuffed as all of the details but the box and bottle were scratch built.  Hope you like.

That's some absolutely cracking stuff!  :-*

I especially like the detailing on the bookcases; is that twisted wire? Very elegant and I will gladly pay tribute to them on my next cupboard/bookcase/cabinet build ;)

I'm paying extra attention since I have a similar bookcase in my BSC2024 entry; I even used the same ork skull in there that you put on a shelf as well!

And is that an enchanter's workbench? With all the dollies waiting to be animated. Again; I will take inspiration here, as I still have to create a simlar workbench for my entry (I had to forego that one because of time restraints)...

Wonderful builds all! 8)

It is.  Yonks ago I made a jig to twist wire pine trees (like a bottle brush).  It lets me evenly twist about 18 inches of wire at a go.
And is that an enchanter's workbench? With all the dollies waiting to be animated.
That was the plan.  Having trouble figuring out what else to fill the interior with.  I have a couple ideas but they are not quite fleshed out yet.

Again, Thanks to everyone for the nice words.

Those are looking very good, the racked tools on the workbench are especially good but the whole lot is amazing. Can't wait to see them all installed together!

Finished up a wardrobe.  Quite happy with the cloaks and belt.  They are aluminum tape set on paper.  They formed well and the only complaint that I have with them is the adhesive can be a bit lumpy on the edge.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih0caIbNdJimcamVirXI0ZlI3KlZxaMcVoFjRru71qXFrmqE-wW4qOgDbmMObdMn1-R9Gda1Ot26hJedXBJpj1aZZKiLg0Y0syivAm5lmlugzU9a6_g5vUYVmlyvcrT7j4ivZj5maAbdEktv_Qga4lee1QWOJwEj4QQDQEJT3ZyxQlcjvBIqJMi1AAf14/s1567/IMG_4069.jpg)
Next is the enchanting table.  I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to actually represent someone enchanting a sword. In the end I settled on the stone tablet base, the the gratuitous skull and candle.  The sword blade is shamelessly copied from Angry Griffon.  My execution is no where as nice as his.

Shop signs, a ladder and some interior lighting.

Nothing wrong with puppets or dolls.  Clowns are creepy.   lol

Finished the basic structure and just need to sort out a roof, some woodwork and do a bit of gap filling.  This morning I was playing with the placement of the interior elements.  Not sure if I need some more as bits of it is looking a bit sparse.  I will have to have a think on it.

Really nice; a build to my heart  :D

I take it the levels come off to access them?

The scatter is looking good, but in my experience, more is usually better/lifelike. Just make sure to leave enough floor space for the placement of minis.

I've had a bit of an experiment in my BSC entry this year, with an fully decorated interior (pics for round two will be up shortly). I put in a table and chairs on top of a rug. They're glued to the rug, but the rug itself is loose from the floor, so I can easily take them out when more floorspace is required, in one easily handled unit.

I'm calling it a succes, and I will probably apply the same principle to future builds as well. Maybe that's a route to pursue?

Oh, and the only thing more creepy than lifelike dolls and clowns, is a lifelike clown doll...  ;D

The levels nest one on top of the other for easy access.
so I can easily take them out when more floorspace is required, in one easily handled unit.
I did this extensively for my sci fy builds.  Almost all of the buildings were MDF and I wanted to share the terrain between them and my modular complex.  For my fantasy builds, I figured that I would build every building with dedicated interior details.  Less rattling around and I do not have to store the elements separately.
Here are some examples.

Stupendous-incredible is the overall take.

I never feared clowns - until I saw yours sitting on his 'throne'.  I may need therapy now.  And, please, oh, please, tell us that is not a self-portrait!  :o

A sigilist is a magus who studies and derives magical power from sigils.

The sigilist workshop.  I ended up using all of my pre-made parchments here but I still have about twenty finished scrolls in the box for future use.

Yep we like  :-* looks awesome Snitchy, the books, jars and papers make it looked so lived in and really helps paint a background story.

The paper scrolls and books look amazing

Thanks all for the nice comments.

I am quite happy with all the parchment on the floor.  It makes it look much more cluttered than it is.  For the background story, I am trying to at least give my builds a sense of purpose while keeping them playable.
Again, thanks to everyone for the nice words.

I do not know how I managed to miss this thread.
It is absolutely blooming fantastic.

You should take a bird's eye view of each room & sell copies for people who do not have your skill, but want to play on such terrain.

So amazing...the details are fantastic. The papers scattered on the floor make it look like the Sigilist met an unfortunate end and his place was ransacked! Great work...

What a wonderful piece of terrain!  :-*

I love the amount of detail you put into it; I'm going for something similar with my own Frostgrave terrain.

I especially love the scattered loose pages of parchment all over the floor of the one room; don't mind if I pinch that idea; it's great.

The stairwell is cool too; I can imagine many a soul falling down that steep deathtrap ;)

And I see you have a map on the wall as well; did you draw that yourself, or was it a print? Love the rugs too; they make the building feel lived in, just like all of the other scattered terrain pieces.

Spectacular!

Agreed, it makes the place look cluttered whilst allowing lots of space for little people to stand.
Glad to see you have recovered from the injury that took you out of the BSC. Now get on with the pottery!

Thank you all for the kind words as I thought this thread had died a death.

Laser printed onto card.  Quick and easy.

Almost.  My left hand is still weak and I had to take quite a few breaks so my hand would not cramp up.  I still have the bits that I had been working on.  Just taking a bit of a break before starting my next project.
