In a galaxy far, far away.......
Well not quite but the Regulars did come together for a skirmish game set amidst an imperial galactic empire where revolution is in the air.
In this case the revolutionaries of the Buried West have downloaded a computer virus into a dysfunctional droid last seen wandering a settlement on Planet 66 without purpose and two troops of Imperial conscripts have been dispatched to recover it. Unbeknown to them "it's a trap" and the revolutionaries are set to ambush the Imperials and loot their transport.
-
The troopers arrived from the western edge of the settlement, one troop drove into the strangely deserted square ("it's too quite") and the other drove off to cover the flank.
All remained quite, a couple of local police eyed the Imperials warily and various citizens wandered about yawning.
Then an eagle eyed trooper spotted movement on the cantina roof and with a shout of "rebels!" the shooting started.
-
Once the shooting started it all got a bit confusing and I was too busy umpiring to take anymore photos lol
Despite their advantage of cover the rebels didn't fare as well as they'd hoped - the Imperials being in body armour played a key part here. The coppers briefly got involved and then scuttled back into their station - "it was all a bit of a misunderstanding guvernor"
By game end however the Imperials had scooped up the droid and roared off the table seemingly the winners only to find there was no virus :( Equally the rebels had failed to capture any vehicles and had lost more men than they had killed.

We used the Osprey Black Ops rules for the game which although designed for C21st moderns worked perfectly well for a future wars setting with a few tweaks for hand blasters and assault blasters.
Anyone who knows me will be aware of my dislike for the Osprey rules series and even in this successful run out there were things that were badly written or plain just didn't make sense, but for this game they worked well and I'd use them again which is just as well because the terrain and figures have sat packed away for at least two years and never seen the light of day ::) I can almost feel a series of adventures coming on :)

My boys of the buried west tried their hardest today, to ambush imperial forces, but it didn’t go too well. :-[….or did it ?
We had two squads of buried west boys, I ran one and “shrinking” Dave ran the other.
Dave’s boys were holed up on the rooftop of the “men’s club” ;) ;)

My boys were scattered around the main plaza in the middle of the town.
The imperial troops entered the town in armored vehicles.
“You can’t park that there !”

They found the droid straight away, but as they disembarked their vehicle, Dave’s boys opened up on them.

One of my boys was able to get behind them for a cheeky shot.

The second team of imperial troops arrived and attacked the men’s club.

Dave’s boys defended the men’s club with their lives, fighting off any imperial troops that hadn’t paid to get in :o

My cheeky sniper got found out, and took a good kicking from an imperial trooper. I say……

The rest of my boys showed themselves and started laying down fire on those imperial chaps.

Imperial troops started to fall in the crossfire, including their medic.

At this stage we thought we had them cornered.

Little did they know we had a cunning plan.
We let them “win” so that they escaped with the droid….as we had infected the software in it.
Download that droids software, and the galactic empire is DOOMED….HA,HA,HA. lol lol
Good fun was had by all, with lots of laughter.
Thanks Ian for the game.

We, the forces of true law & order (Imperium) not only achieved our objective,
but downed a large number of Rebel scum at the same time. Win Win !!! :D
-
As Ian was busy umpiring I took the opportunity to take pictures. :D
Thanks for the game Ian.
Next time we close down that Mens' club. 8)

Did I spot a Grenadier Imperial Marine from their old Traveller line in there? Excellent!
Good looking game!
-
Men’s club will always be free…..as long as you’ve paid your subs lol
-
I love it when fellow LAFers get together and banter about their game! Keep more reports coming - they're so much fun to read. :-*

Yep, very enjoyable, and great eye candy.
-
Great looking game and figures. And loved the "shout-out" to the old Grenadier Traveller Marines (in my view, still one of the best depictions of Sci-Fi armored infantry).

has.been, where the Panhard VBL's from? If you said already I missed it.

They came from a local cheap shop, 'It's a Gift', so many years ago the shop is no longer there. :'(
I had them for many years till Ian bought them off me. Nice to see them in action once again.
-
"Boys from the Buried West"? What's that name about Bob?
The VBL is great. And I really like the paint job on the Imperial (Pig Iron?) figures.
Surprised you didn't use Galactic Heroes rules rather than the Osprey ones Ian, given the small number of figures per player.

James
I don’t come up with the name “boys from the buried west”.
Ian wrote the scenario ;)
-
James. What I'd really rather use is Tomorrow's War but I thought it would be too complicated (although it shouldn't be, as its an Ambush Alley game) same with Galactic Heroes which I see as more like D&D in space :)
Buried West = Westbury, keep up mate lol

As much it [has] probably been infiltrated, I think Imperial Intelligence may have a word on that... lol
Buried West = Westbury, keep up mate lol
No fear, Vodkafan; oblivious R Us...
[Edit: In case my humor was too subtle, I needed that explanation as well. ::)
Really smashing game, all!
