Title: M Blakeys 28mm Arnhem Project
Post by: M Blakey on May 27, 2024, 09:50:09 PM
Thought I'd start my own thread regarding my Arnhem project.

It's in the very early stages but thought by starting this thread then hopefully it will keep me focused.

So I bought into the first Arnhem Heroes KS and bought 2 sets of the full Montys plus a few extras bits. My plans are to base one set as though they are defending the LZs/in the country. The second will be based as though they were defending the ruins around Arnhem Bridge or in the ruined building of Oosterbeek.

There's alot of work to do here.  ;D

The clean-up comlete and some minor conversions

I wanted the wounded Para to be offering his colleagues information as to where he sustained the injuries. So I thought a simple had conversion and popping him into the back of a jeep i felt really gave this figure its desired result for me.

The beautiful buildings are by Sabotag3d. The staring of a street in Arnhem.

Nicely done, those are coming along well. The houses are rather gorgeous too.

If you fancy some variety I can vouch for this chap's prints and he does a range of Dutch stuff.

Another little conversion. One will be carrying the iconic umbrella. The other is armed protecting his comrade. I think I'll invest in another one in the future to  do a surrendering duo.

I find it interesting that you use washers as bases. It certainly gives the minis some heft.

It also means you can keep 'em in place by sticking magnetic strips in your storage boxes. I'd hate to think how many washers I've bought over the years. Oh and if you want group bases, you can get large and quite thin fender washers that will happily base most support weapons.

Superb start, some great conversions.
The chaplain pair with the pistol works particularly well.

It sure does :D and just like Carlos has mentioned, the washers are great for magnetised storage. So many times in the past without having the magnetic bases when moving boxes, figures have fallen all over the place.
Superb start, some great conversions.

Cheers Ash  :D🍻

This is a great looking project, with the release of kickstarter 2 it's inspired me to start painting the 1st release which I hadn't started. I didn't realise how good the sculpts are until I started painting and the detail is incredible. I'm going for Oosterbeek/Hartenstein themed force.
Can't wait to see how your project comes along

Just a note for those who want round bases but would like them without the holes, try Total Element (but don't tell them what you are doing with them!!!).  They have various sizes of steel discs meant for magnetic triggers on doors and such.  But they make great bases.  I'm using them for 15 mm figures.  Even a simple tiny 1/2 inch piece gives enough weight to keep figures upright.

I go one step extra and prime the underside of my bases - this prevents bare metal from showing (I hate that in a game) and it mildly reduces the hold which in turn reduces the chance of the magnetic connection being strong enough to break a figure from its base.

This is what 2 full Monty deals and a boat load of the extras look like. This is from the Empress & Hicks Arnhem Heroes 2 Kickstarter. So much stuff! Have I bitten off more then I can chew? ;D

I've been very busy and had a health scare, but everything seems to be back on track. Knock on wood. Bank Holiday weekend gave me the chance to finally do some headswaps I've been planning to do for a while now.

I've had bought 2 sets of the Poles in then KS and also added some extra figures from the first Arnhem KS for the head swaps I had in mind.

I wanted the poles to have abit more variation so.... One whole Poles with berets have all had head swaps for either a Para berets or airborne helmet. And vice versa to avoid wasting lovely miniatures.

My favourite from this ended up being the Vickers gunner the head swap here was from the ambulance driver. Really enjoy the look for the gunner having a smoke while on watch.

Just need to do the green stuff. Will add scrim and tidy up necks and ears that were lost in the chopping up  lol

I had a spare pack, Al Murray and James Holland figures, so head swapped them with Urquhart and Sosabowski. ASLs theybhave done so mich to raise awareness of what happend  during the battle of Arnhem I plan to have a small diorama set where SGT Dennis Smith is taking a pic of them outside the Hartenstein Hotel.

The spare heads I had left in turn had head swaps with other figures. Just want some variety in my Arnehm project. 8)

Dutch resistance head swaps and 1 of the stretcher team had a head swap. Images of 133rd parachute Field Ambulance at Arnhem gave me the inspiration for the no helmet no beret orderly.

Also in the post this week is the new Empress 75mm pack howitzers. I will be picking up a couple more next payday  ;D
