Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time! But actually, painting 28mm gives me the enjoyment of individual minis, whereas 6mm provides the grand sweep of battle. Also, it means that I can do the walls of Troy and the black ships in 6mm without the temptation to go overboard in 28mm.
The 28mm minis are mostly from the old - but still great - range by the Perrys from Wargames Foundry. These have been lovely to paint, and a damn sight quicker now that GW Contrast/ Speedpaints are available!
The 6mm are a combination of Baccus and Rapier Miniatures, with walls and buildings by Leven Miniatures. The boats are scratch built from balsa wood and Milliput.
It's been a most enjoyable project and I look forward to adding more.

Absolutely stunning! The miniatures look gorgeous, as does that lovely set-piece in the last pic. I do rather like the idea of collecting a force on multiple scales, I’ve been debating doing the same a little while now. What rules are you using?

Always wanted to do Trojan War in 6mm. I do it in 28mm.
Maybe this will make me actually do it!

Great stuff!

Where did you get the 6mm ships?

Inkpaduta, I read a post on James’ blog about the 6mm project - he made the ships himself! They’re beautiful work, alongside all the other beautiful work on this project.

Sorry, didn't read the whole thing.

Easily done, and my reply was a little mean-spirited, so the apology should be mine.

Fantastic work as always James!

They look wonderful, both the 6 and the 28mm figures!
I've been thinking about doing this sort of thing myself, 6mm for mass battles and 28mm for skirmish/tactical games, in the same period. Then combine them into a big campaign where you can "zoom in" onto individual engagements and play them with the 28s, or play massive army battles with territorial gains and the whole nine yards, in 6mm... Bit of a pipe dream, I will admit.
Anyways, amazing work :D
Always nice to see people appreciating Greek mythology and history (being Greek) :)

Thank you very much! We're using my forthcoming Midgard Heroic Battles rule which are due to be published by Reisswitz Press later this year, though art and layout are taking a while.

As previously mentioned, all carved from balsa wood and then I added some very rough Milliput stern and bow detail. Here they are in progress along with a finished shot.

Much appreciated. I've always enjoyed Greek myth and this project is well overdue. You're right that collecting the different scales allows you to zoom in and out of the action.
My blog has more pictures and a bit more information about the project: https://mogsymakes.net/2024/05/04/6mm-trojan-wars-partizan-2024-show-preview-1/ (https://mogsymakes.net/2024/05/04/6mm-trojan-wars-partizan-2024-show-preview-1/)

what type of unit sizes are required, and is it basing agnostic?
-
Base and unit sizes are up to you - as long as the units have a consistent frontage all will be well
There's a definitive explanation on James's website

thank you, that helps

Great looking project, I must admit I love the 6mm more as I really enjoy the mass battle look.
