I'm working on some woodlands terrain. I've got trees and rocks sorted, but I need some bushes and shrubbery and... I'm no Roger.
I've seen lichen used, and something I think is rubberized horsehair. Apart from glueing on some lichen and maybe drybrushing it, I'm lost.
What do the professionel shrubbers do?

Woodland Scenics clump foliage is very useful comes in a couple of shades and is much denser than lichen.
It comes in fairly large pieces, but these can easily have bits broken off to make smaller bushes or other foliage

To increase its longevity giving the finished tree/bush/shrub a spray/brush of diluted PVA really strengthens the whole thing.

Rubberized horse hair and flock is my go to for all my tree and shrubbery needs. I use clear Plasti Dip to set it in place. Hope that helps.

No shrubberies! No! Never! D'you hear? Never!

Lichen has a tendency to dry out and become brittle. Never used horsehair but seen it used well - and not so well (failure to trim the loose ends). Woodland scenics products are a good option. And there is an old technique, perhaps best by combining with woodland scenics (ground foam as well as foliage can be used for this) and that is a kitchen sponge, the synthetic types, not the natural types please. Ditto for some scratch pads for cleaning. On the latter use high grade industrial scissors and not your wife's (if you have one) good sewing scissors - or she might use them to clip some sensitive part of your anatomy! :o

I use upholstery foam. I shred it in a blender then dye it with poster paints then glue it on. You can then flock it as well for further texture.

Cleaning scratch pads as mentioned, especially the large round buffer floor cleaning pads for machines. I bought a box 5 large round industrial buffer floor cleaners off fleabay for £20 and its lasted me ages. Also sounds a bit strange but use filters(car air filters and fish tank filters).
