Title: Spode’s Blackshorts
Post by: Sardoo on 07 June 2024, 11:03:02 PM
I’ve recently been binge reading, and binge watching, “Jeeves and Wooster” where I came upon the dreaded Spode’s Blackshorts.

Following this I scoured the LAF for posts and pictures of this group of crack(ed) troops and found much of interest. Sadly, however, many of the examples of painted miniatures are impossible to see as they appear to be behind a Photobucket screen. I wonder if there is any way to access these pictures?

Further, as I now have my sprues of Desert Rats gathered as stand-ins for the Blackshorts I wondered if anyone could suggest which colours/specific paints to use for their uniforms?

Grateful thanks for any suggestions offered!

Ha ! Beaten to it by Roo first thing on a Saturday morning !

Roo's link seems to bring up the mobile friendly version of the blog.

An easier read (at least to me) is this link:

https://hereford1938avbcwtng.blogspot.com/

If you enter "Spode" or "Blackshorts" on the search function on the right
at the top, a feast of Blackshorts and Blackshorts photos await, plus lots
of ruminations on Roderick Spode and his nephew Eustace (currently
recovering in a Casualty Clearing Station after the last battle), including
YouTube British Pathe newsreel. Jeeves and Wooster also make the
occasional appearance.

I think with the 8th Army figures, JP (who did the original Blackshorts
platoon) went with simple black shorts and khaki shirts, the rest following
"Army" colours, but as they say "it's your VBCW". Rob, who produced the
2nd Blackshorts Platoon, created "Imperial Blackshorts" recruited from the
colonies with a red band round their Wolseley helmets....

Hope it all provides some further inspiration!

Just be aware that further lawsuits await any LAF members that continue the libel that Plynkes himself was ever in any way involved with the Blackshorts. This vile lie will not stand.

The UK has very strong libel laws, and it is only a matter of time before this sorry business finally comes to court, and the Herefordshire VBCW villains are utterly destroyed by the damages they will be forced to pay.

 ;)

(Seriously though, that figure seems like it was just made for this role)

Thanks for all of those excellent and helpful replies - I'm very much looking forward to creating a unit of these cads and bounders!

Yes, but do they run away at the mention of the word Eulalia?

Yes, but do they run away at the mention of the word Eulalia?

As fast as their stout British knees can take them!
