My first game of "A Song of Ice and Fire!"
Using Dave's figures, I was the Night's Watch and Dave played Boltons.
The game play is easy to pick up, but the cards take some experience to learn. The off table Non- Combat Units (NCU) board is an interesting twist to the game and could make or break turns!
The Flat terrain is odd but does not detract from the game to much!

Bolton Cavalry won the day by sweeping up the Watch's flank!

I've watched a few Youtube videos of this game, it does look interesting and I like the figures. As you hinted at though, for us in the LAF crowd the battlefields look strangely flat and barren. I imagine there's nothing stopping anybody from prettying up the table with some of their own terrain stuff, though.

Pricey figs when i last looked. Too rich for my blood.

You can now pick them up really cheaply on the second-hand market though.

Looks like a great game!

The figures are great. You did a good job painting yours.
I like the game. I don't use the off board stuff. Haven't got
my figures painted yet.

The chaps do have 3D version of the terrain for Demo games, but they think it's the Strategy with the cards, and the off board stuff which makes the game!

They are all from my Pal's collection, not my work!

Looks like a great game! I keep meaning to get into the system, the non-combat character actions sound like it adds a lot of depth to things!

This game is by far my favorite wargame of all time, and I've been playing since early Warhammer 5th edition.
I cannot recommend A Song of Ice and Fire: The Miniatures Game by CMON games enough.
Every choice you make is deeply impactful, the balance between factions is truly great, the game rewards clever play and experience, the miniatures are excellent for the price, the game is very affordable, every faction has multiple flavors of legitimate play styles based on the commander you select, I could go on and on...
A starter + a hero box + one other box is usually enough to get multiple different viable 40pt lists which is the most common game size, and the miniatures can frequently be found on clearance or second hand.
The tactics cards add an element of hand management and hidden strategy (does my opponent have the card Assault Orders in hand??? Do I risk this charge???), and the sideboard NCUs add elements of area control and are deeply impactful on the game.
I recommend the game to anyone.

I have two starter boxes I got on sales, and still have yet to even put the mini's into their stands. :P
SO many boxes to track down. I see sales all the time (and sometimes will post on the Dakka CMON thread) but I'm not up for locking myself into an IP and have enough solo games to catch up on. :/
Glad to see this *is* a good game. CMON doesn't have that good of a reputation for boardgames, with gameplay overshadowed by the mini's.
Still should crack open those Wrath of Kings mini's I bought on sale... :P
