Title: 15mm goblins as snotlings
Post by: dwbullock on July 09, 2024, 04:39:16 PM
I don't generally game in 15mm, so not sure what the actual size of these figures are, really.  However, saw a post from a few years ago suggesting various 15mm goblins to be used as snotlings to help fill out bases.

Now, I have some old school snotlings, as well as some of the snotling blood bowl teams.  I just want a few more for various projects.  Anyone who uses 15mm able to discuss whether they would work as snotlings?

As a general thing, I'd say that most 15mm goblins tend to be a bit too well armed and equipped to make good snotlings. They also have much smaller heads as a rule. Although most goblins have big heads, 28mm snotlings have proportionately huge heads.

One reasonable fit would be the Caesar 1/72 goblins (if you can find them!). They've got slightly smaller heads and are a bit taller than some snotlings, but they've got the right 'vibe' (pictures from Plastic Soldier Review):

If those prove hard to come by, you could look at these guys (https://www.magistermilitum.com/gob5-small-unarmoured-goblins-with-mixed-weapons.html)from Magister Militum. They're a bit smaller than snotlings, but are probably the most appropriate of the 15mm ranges. You could mix them in with some trolls from the same range (https://www.magistermilitum.com/gob10-trolls.html) for a bit of variety (although the trolls will be goblin-sized).

Otherwise, you could look at the Blighthaven/Demonworld goblins from RPE, but they'll be a bit small:

Another reasonable bet might be the "trollbins" (lesser trolls) from RPE. They've got the right look and should be a bit more snotling-like in size, but have only limited poses:

You can see how the trollbin (at the back, to the right of the full troll) compares with the RPE goblins here. I'd say the trollbin is roughly the size of a snotling, and the goblins are a lot smaller:

Finally, Alternative Armies does these lesser goblins, which are between 13mm and 16mm in height, apparently, and have the advantage of being by Kev Adams, even if they're a bit well armed for snotlings:

I have been using 15mm goblins figures for years in my D&D games (28mm) as diminutive Faerie folk such as Brian Froud or Alan Hill illustrated.  even 28mm snotlings (which i bought second-hand as close outs, not being a WH gamer) are really too big  for my tastes.  I was always enamored with a picture of a Arthurian knight beset by a group of diminutive goblins i saw in old Pendragon rule book.  They were probably 6” tall.

Hmm, maybe i out to look for some epic scale 6mm figs…

I also went the other way, using 28mm orcs as giants in my 15mm DBA/HOTT games.

There are also the Warmonger orclings (https://www.warmongerminiatures.com/collections/orclings).

Excellent suggestions, thank you all!

I've been hunting for the Caeser goblins, but no luck on this side of the world.  It's always in my eBay search, though.  Maybe I'll luck out.

Several of the options have shipping that exceeds the value of the goblins, but I will be saving up for a nice, large purchase from a few of the providers.

Finally, one of those large orders is definitely going to be the Warmonger Orclings.  All.  The.  Orclings.  (Though I might try to greenstuff up a diaper for some of those nekkid little greenies.)
