So, with the new Legion rules changes, I'm out. I wasn't a huge fan of the game, but liked it enough to play and I LOVE the lore.
So, are there any other rules out there that work in the Star Wars universe? A game system focused on combat more than objectives and lame movement and LoS restrictions.
I'm really looking for a miniature agnostic system with already created stats for Star Wars units and characters.
I've tried the Wizards of the Coast game. It's too simple for me. I've also played the old West End Games Star Wars Miniatures game and I wasn't a fan of those rules either.
Thanks for any leads.

Although I haven't played it (own it, however), I've seen people playing Fist Full of Lead in the Star Wars universe.

I found a One Page Rules mod for Star Wars through a Google search. I'm looking for a good solo set. Space Weirdos, Five Parsecs From Home, BlkOut, Stargrave, Xenos Rampant, etc. All have possibilities, but none are ready to play a Star Wars-themed game out of the box.

Another shout out for FFoL and I believe Jaye has characters from the films already stated out as downloads on the Wiley Games website.

I'm busy working on solo/coop scifi ruleset based on Sellswords & Spellslingers that is designed to replicate cinematic scifi

Wiley Games Galactic Heroes. Play all the time with the many not-Legion miniatures. Also for any SciFi setting.
Plenty of videos and reviews online. www.wiley-games.com

FFoL Galactic Heroes gets a thumbs up from me too, very adaptable ruleset

Yet another for FFoL, it works great. Both Galactic Heroes and Bigger Battles work well for Star Wars. We've played GH several times, and have forces for BB (using 5 man squads). I have forces for Rebels, Empire, Clones, and my son has Separatists (plus various misc forces such as from the Mandalorian and a slew of civilians)
It works great, and even has rules for Star Wars Rebels and Empire.

So, galactic heroes is a skirmish game so it's not really want I'm looking for. I really want a system that can handle 50+ minis each side.
-
But the Bigger Battles supplement will let you do that with the core mechanics. I have only played bigger battles once and that was with Star Wars. Personally, if I could form a valid opinion from just one game, I wouldn't say I loved it as much as the skirmish core set. But it worked well enough and as I say, that was just one game. I'd recommend giving Bigger Battles a try. The cost is low.

Well, I just ran a game today using Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles with 500+ figures. Granted, I was not going for 'characters' so if that is what you are after it might not work. But it can absolutely handle 50+ minis per side - and some of them, quite a few, can be 'characters'. We were pushing the limits of the rules but we had fun, lots of laughter, lots of good sportsmanship, and lots of the unexpected. And, no, it was not Star Wars or even sci-fi but the point is you can have Really Large games with FFOL:BB (my personal favorite of the FFOL family of rules). And the rules do have stats for Star Wars type figures if not specifically for Star Wars (but close enough to be an easy, very easy, adapt) and I have an absolute intention to use these rules when I get my Star Wars figures painted and game ready.
If the goal is simply more figures on the table, do what I did: each stand of three figures got one die and the whole stand was taken out as one casualty; exceptions were commanders and heroes. I love the look of lots of figures and I was worried if FFOL would allow that - well, it does. And even if you don't want to use multi-based figures you can still use lots of figures, just make 'units' of say five figures each and have two players per side - that uses only 20 of 52 (100 figures) possible cards in the deck. Still not enough? Get a fractal deck with 60 cards: 60 units, five figures per unit, 300 figures. Still not enough, make the units 10 figures and reach out to 600 figures. The rules are so flexible you can tie them in a pretzel and not break them. Or really go all out, multi-base for 20 figures (7 stands, 6x3, 1x2= 20 figures) in a unit and stick with the traditional 52 card deck = 1,040 figures.
So, another recommendation for FFOL:BB.
You have to find what works for you, of course, but sometime what we are seeking simply doesn't exist.

As noted, Bigger Battles does exactly that, using effectively the same rule system. My son and I played the Clone Wars with it (Grevious, 2 Droidekas, 5 Super Battledroids, and 24 regular Battle Droids vs my Anakin, 5 Clone Commandos, 5 Clone Airborne, and 15 Clone Troopers)
Squads can be as big or as small as you want, as long as ratios are roughly observed. For units like the Droidekas, we give each two wounds or more and an attack for each wound remaining in the unit. It makes them feel more elite with no major variance in gameplay. Give the Sith/Jedi the psionics power from Galactic Heroes and off you go.
For my regular gaming group, we've used it for Northern Crusades and twice for Samurai.

Yes, Ffol and Bigger Battles work just fine for skirmish and unit skirmish. We've played loads of Star Wars games with the Ffol system. You can even add in spaceship combat with Starfighters.
-
Xenos Rampant would likely work well, too. It plays out more in a slugfest fashion, as we found on our first game with the rules, recently.

I'm sure someone made a set of rules for SW based on the GW LOTR game. That seems to be able to handle 50+ a side, and allowing for heroes.

And another vote for the above. Bigger Battles will suit you with unit size actions.

That sounds pretty good actually.
For larger skirmishes of 50+ figures per side I think that Xenos Rampant should work nicely, simply because it's widely available, it's very comfortable to get into and it's extremely flexible.

With my club and my son I have had allot of fun with Grimdark Future and our fairly large collection of WOTC Star Wars Miniatures.

Rules are free and play fast. The online army builder is also free and the best I've used. You can join a Patreon for a few bucks for advanced rules.
There are already some entries in the Official army lists that are applicable to Star Wars, but when you dig into the"Community" lists you'll find allot of Star Wars amy lists. The key is to take the time to read carefully because the army list titles don't use Star Wars trademarks.
You won't find the same depth of rules as Legion, but Grimdark has become my go-to rule set for fast playing Pulp Sci-Fi big battles of all kinds. Being able to put a ton of figs and vehicles on the table and finish in couple hours is a great thing.
A pic from a recent battle where the Imperial forces enforced compliance on an Outer Rim Hutt mining station.
