Post by: Seb on July 30, 2024, 12:53:20 PM
Hi folks!

We have a great announcement!

Leviathan: Lords of Havoc

Leviathan: Lords of Havoc is a 10mm scale tabletop wargame which enables you fight large scale battles full of awesome devastation, clashes of formations, and withering exchanges of firepower. The emphases are on command decisions, strategic placement and manouevering your units to give you the best chance of victory once battle is joined. It would be best if you kept your opponent guessing where and when the hammer blow is going to fall, and at the same time, ensure your army can respond to their advances and assaults. Manoeuvre, assault and occupy strategic locations on the battlefield, and wherever you meet the enemy, destroy them with the application of overwhelming force.

Leviathan - Classic 28mm range

We have acquired the Leviathan range of miniatures, bringing this classic collection of miniatures to a new home.
Our website now offers the first batch of classic 28mm Leviathan models. In the following weeks, we will add more packs.
Please forgive us for the quality of the current catalogue pictures. We are working on new ones 🙂.

Cheers,
Seb

Interesting. 10mm or smaller is the way to go when playing massed battles I think.

For some reason I've had a small squad of Leviathan miniatures in my lead pile for many, many years. they're sort of chaosy looking with flails and swords. And they're really, really chunky bois too!

I converted one of them into a prehistoric barbarian for an RPG campaign we played well over a decade ago...

Nice to see these back  :)

Not a game I had heard of before.

Out of interest why the switch from 25mm to 10mm? Or were both scales playable before?

Interesting looking figures - are the ranges going to expand?

I’ve had a look at the rules and some feedback
* the double column layout is really hard to read due to the way section breaks have been applied
* the rules don’t feel very mass battle as the suggested scope is 20-25 bases which is around 6 units - this is pretty tiny
* the rules don’t feel very mass battle with all the details in them - eg for combat there are loads of combat modifiers - then you need to pair off dice - all feels very laborious to play

Might not get all this lot on the table at once - but this is what I think of for mass battle in 10mm

On principle, I'm always excited to see more small scale options hit the market. Best of luck with this!

Thanks for your feedback, lads.

That sounds cool! They are the Barbarians, and yes, the old Levitahn 28mm minis are definitely on the "chunky" side of the scale :D
They are still fun to paint.

Not a game I had heard of before.

Out of interest why the switch from 25mm to 10mm? Or were both scales playable before?

The original Leviathan game was 28mm in scale and size, similar to, say, SAGA. We decided to reboot the IP by going 10mm as we wanted to explore the options of big monsters and big battles. And it is also a new system. I hope to get some work on the classic 28mm range done as well, but at the moment our focus is on the 10mm version.

Thanks! Yes, luckily, the layout is temporary only. I will work on the next updated version and improve it. The final book will have a proper, nice-looking layout.

The total base numbers are currently used as an example. We are testing other sizes, but for a start, we want something that new players can easily manage. It's always problematic with a huge army, as the starting points look very intimidating for newcomers.

It was a decision we made, as we wanted a bit more granular system. But we are open for feedback. Hence, we went public with a beta version of the game :)

We are working on new minis, and the current demo set is just an introduction to the range. I'm sure we will showcase more minis in the coming weeks.

Nice looking collection! It looks stunning!

Sorry I think I was a bit grumpy in my message the other day.

With the layout - probably putting in some horizontal lines at section breaks would help. There were a few time where I continued reading down, when I should have gone across.

A to mass battle - I think you need to aim for a game that works well for a big game - 20+ units a side. But I get the point of accessibility and ease of starting - so having some options to start with a smaller number of units is good. But there tend to be some fundamental design decisions which make a mass battle game work vs a small scale game. Usually around level of detail and abstraction to make a big game playable in a sensible amount of time.

Any chance of a picture next to a GW Warmaster mini or a Copplestone 10mm for a sense of how they compare size wise? Or even just a shot against a mm scale?  Minis look really good so far!

I'm away from home, but I will be back next week, so I will be able to take comparison photos of minis. I'm not sure why I did not think about it before.
But here are pics of minis next to the ruler. I hope that will help. I will try to take better shots when I'm home, as I don't have good condition at the moment.

No worries :)

It's always a matter of balancing. But from our initial playtest, it works. However, we need more feedback to ensure that the system works.

Mark made some rules updates here and there, so I will make sure that the next version of the rules is more reader-friendly.

From other news

A quick preview of the Dwarven warmachine, as I have received many questions about it since day one.

Not into the tiny stuff but good to see Leviathan 28mm is brought back to life! Got quite some models from that game - never played it though - but still look for some figs... :)

A friend of mine had loads of leviathan stuff, I'm sure he bought it from a shop in Darlington, bought their entire stock.
I seem to remember playing it a few times and enjoying it
The 10mm stuff looks interesting

I'm glad to hear that you folks like the 10mm so far.

I did play the original Leviathan many, many moons ago. But as we are currently adding the old 28mm range to our website and I'm taking new photos of models, I plan to give it a go and play the original 28mm version later this month :D.

Seb

Hi Folks,

Here is a quick update about all things Leviathan! :D

Leviathan: Lords of Havoc

First, some bits of Mark Brendan's work on the narrative side of Leviathan: Lords of Havoc!

Second, we are currently working on another batch of miniatures. Here you can see my first paint layers on a 10mm version of Ever Hungry demon :D

I'm working on a better layout version of the beta rules so they are easier to read :D

Classic Leviathan range

We recently added another batch of 28mm Leviathan miniatures to our catalogue.

Among them is the Talos (War Golem). It has been a long time since this model was available—years, to be precise! But now it's back in stock!

We have also fist of the big beast added as well:

Hi all!

It has been a long time since the last update! Sorry about that :D

NEW RELEASES - 10mm Goblin Rabble

Goblin rabble are the lowest of the low in orc society. When they aren’t serving as slaves, food or sacrifices to Azoth, they are driven to battle to serve mainly as cannon fodder.

The new goblins are our first new release of the year. They are cast in thermoplastic (aka SioCast), and we are very happy with the results.

Leviathan 28mm Classic range

We are also continuing with the release of the classic 28mm Leviathan models. It takes a bit longer than we hoped, as rephotographing the range takes a bit more time. But I think it is a time well spent as it shows the old minis in a far better light:

Hobby Monday Update!
The 10mm wee lads are back on the paint desk. In this case, the orc spearmen.

I think I have nailed down the colour scheme now as well as the way to paint a big bunch of them :)
So few more layers, and they will be finished!

Hi all,

Here are the latest news!

Leviathan 28mm re-release

The War Chariot is the favoured vehicle of the Barbarian clan. Many favour the high mobility granted by these smaller, lighter chariots compared to the larger War Towers and Battle Chariots. These small agile chariots are drawn by a pair of Razorbacks and crewed by a charioteer and warrior.
