Title: Hubbabubba's Further Adventures in Five Parsecs from Home

Campaign turn 5
With Parfitt and Wilmorton still laid up in the ship's infirmary, it falls to the rest of the crew to deliver the intel on the location of the damning shipment that SoyCo maybe able to use in their ongoing corporate squabble with the Corporate Union, and hopefully bring the crew a well needed payday.

Parfitt's handler was reluctant to meet with anyone but Parfitt, and so it was arranged that the crew would make a blind drop so the intel could be recovered.

Thus we find Rossi, Jal Fraesi, Chester and the greener than green Mak the engineer, skulking around a disused loading facility in the wee twilight hours. (Mission conditions- Gloomy. Figures have a max 9" range, but firing will give away their position, meaning they can be targeted from normal range).

Unfortunately for the crew, they are not alone. A band of Skulker brigands have chosen this very same night to liberate some of the more valuable pieces of junk in the facility.

The crew cannot make the intel drop until the Skulkers have been driven off or wiped out. (Objective, fight off.)

Fortunaltely, although they were outnumbered by 2, the crew of the Mary Sue were able to eliminate the vermin, make the drop and get a well needed pay day for finishing this first quest.

Campign turn 6

On returning to the ship and receiving payment, the crew finally had enough credits to pay for some extra medical attention, so Parfitt made a full recovery, although Wilmorton would still miss three more missions.

One of the rewards from mission 5 was intel which proved invaluable to one of the other corporations present on Logan's world. As a result, the crew was offered a contract by this corporation, which needed some professional muscle to 'persuade' a group of mercanaries in the pay of a local enterprise that their services might be best employed elsewhere.

In addition, word of the crews low profile operations has attracted the attention of local government, which would very much like a discreet solution to an infection of off world xenos in an importation warehouse complex, which has officially been denied by said local government.

Weighing up their options, the crew decided that a spot of pest control was an easier option than going up  against some paid mercenaries, and so off they went.

By exploiting the narrow corridor, Chester and Rossi were able to keep the bugs at bay, the stunned lead bug meant that those in the rear couldn't attack.

In the end success with no casualties, although Chester had a brown trouser moment when he was actually charged and engaged in hand to hand (claw) with one of the bugs.

It would seem the crew have had a change in luck and the dice are once again smiling at them.

Campaign turn 7

Having returned safe and sound from their extermination duties, the crew turned their attention to the Corpo job.

Details were thin on the ground, the crew were given coordinates of what was described as a crash site on the Logan’s world's second continent. They were told that a company shuttle had disappeared and their investigation team  had been unable to examine the site as it was being custodianed by a group of mercenaries in the employ of an undisclosed party.

It all sounded very suspect, but rather than ask too many questions and risk losing the job, the crew boarded The Mary Sue, climbed to low orbit and in 5 hours or so closed in on the site.

The team fail to seize the initiative, but Wilmorton, JalFrezi and Rossi all act in the quick phase. Wilmorton moves into position behind some bushes and snaps off two shots with his assault rifle, stunning one of the troopers.

Jalfrezi dashes up behind cover while Rossi fires on the merc specialist, stunning him.

In the enemy phase, the trooper returns fire on Wilmorten, stunning him in return. The rest of the squad moved up under cover into better firing positions.

At the end of the turn Mak and Parfitt also move up. (Both of them have shorter ranged weapons.)

Turn 2, Rossi takes out the merc specialist before he can get into range.

Everyone else acts in the slow phase. Unfortunately Parfitt is badly positioned and she becomes the target of the troopers near the vehicles.

She’s hit three times, saved the first time by her flak vest, the second by a stroke of luck and the third by a story point, (the trooper was momentarily struck by how similar Parfitt was to his long lost aunty Elsy, who he hadn’t seen since childhood, the thought of whom momentarily put off his aim.) Needless to say, Parfitt is persuaded to move back into cover.

Jalfrezi gets into position and mows down the Merc leader with 3 hits from the rattle gun she inherited from Rogan Josh.

Turn 3, Rossi no longer has any viable targets so starts to work her way down the left flank together with Mak.

Wilmorton takes out the trooper he’d previously exchanged fire with and a second trooper falls to Jalfrezi’s fire.

There’s now only 1 trooper, but he refuses to bottle, seeking to exact revenge for his fallen comrades.

Turn 4. Alas, it is to no avail as the final trooper falls to fire from Mak’s blast rifle, as she finally moves into range.

Five Parsecs from Home: Campaign turn 8

On returning from the mission to secure the site of the crashed shuttle, the crew land in the small run down space port of Logan’s World’s small and run down capital, and after locking down the Mary Sue head out through the dock area towards their regular watering hole.

Only, something’s off, where is everyone? The streets are clear. Jal quickly sends her snooper bot to scan the immediate area, just as Rossi warns the crew to seek cover after spotting a figure with a rifle trained on them from the roof of a nearby admin block.

It would seem that those K’Erin outcasts can’t let sleeping dogs lie.

In the ensuing firefight, the K’Erin and the hired killer that accompanied them were completely eliminated. Scratch a second rival.

The crew were forced to play another rival mission which cost them a job from a new patron.
Still, they came out ok, even though Jal took a shot to the chest that should have killed her, (story point)

Unfortunately for him, Jal repositions and gets a bead on him, although he’s only stunned.

The exchange of fire continues between Chester and the other two remaining K’Erin, who pass their moral role and hold their ground.

A fluke shot puts Jal down temporarily, although Rossi moves up to take her position.

Parfitt decides that enough is enough, moving into position and putting the K’Erin leader down with a burst from her shotgun.

The last two K’Erin who were holding the left flank split up, One moves into better cover and fires on Chester, the other moves up and fires on Parfitt.

However, neither were successful and the next round saw them both taken out of action.

In the post game sequence, the crew were offered some under the counter goods from an alien merchant which turned out to be a hyper blaster! Oh happy day!

Next up, the crew will unknowingly be running the gauntlet for Silas, who’s perhaps been up to no good.

I have so many questions about the table / terrain.  I'll start with 'Where are those vehicles from?'  And ... well, I won't hog the questions.


The tracked single cab vehicles I got from a company caled Joel here in Spain, but they've since gone out of business. The others are picked up in local cheap 'todo 100' shops, basically a Spanish pound shop, if and when I see them. A fair few years back there where a lot of Norev 1:45 concept cars doing the rounds, I haven't spotted any for a good while though.

With regards to the buildings, you should check out Matakishi's tea house for how tos, that's where I got the inspiration from.

Well spotted. The RT book will always be a great source of inspiration, but it's there in the photos because we played a quick game of Rogue Trader on the same table.

Campaign turn 9

You'll have to forgive me, but the write up here is going to be at best minimalist, not least as I played it a couple of weeks back, and by memory's sketchy.

Truth be told, it was a bit of a walk over for the crew, who are starting to feel a little over powered, especially since the addition of a hyper blaster.

Anyway... It turns out that our man Silas wanted the crew to run a little errand. 'Don't worry about it.' Says he. 'Just do me a favour and see if there's a way through the lower sub level of this here abandoned factory?'

The patron mission was move through, from starting edge off the board.

It seems Silas had had a little wager with one of his associates, betting his contractors could run the guantlet so to speak. There would be words before the crew went on another fools errand like this one.

Luckily, the opfor turned out to be a group of poorly armed wannabe gunslingers who were soon laid to rest.

The table set up was a 2x2 simple dungeon run, with only one possible route through.

Enevitably the two sides met in the centre and the gunslingers were shredded by Parfitt's crew's superior weaponry.

In all it took longer to set up the board than play the game, but such is Fiveparsecs at times.

The crew found a plasma rifle as part of the after battle rolls, making them even more tooled up for the next mission.

Hi, the walls are made of foam, a combination of scribing, and then panelling with cereal card and the odd bit of detailling here and there. Then it all had a coat of modpodge to seal it.

I have just gone through the adventures of your crew from the beginning. Amazing terrain, beautifully painted miniatures and exciting write ups  :-*.

I have played 5PFH and have most of the supplements. Currently I'm playing County Roads Z, which is a similar game but in a zombie apocalypse world, but I may very well return to this in the near future again as I found it great fun.

Campaign turn 10.

The crew find themselves once again in Logan's World's capital. Parfitt goes looking for work and finds a paying job; Silas has more dirty work he needs taking care of, some cargo that's been 'misplaced' that he'd like the crew to take care of until he can have it picked up. After being pressed for more details, Silas admitted that the cargos ownership might be under dispute, to which end there may be effectives in the area from the 'Crosly Bendix Corp'.
(Mission = Secure)

The cargo is located in a small wasteland settlement on the edge of the Dune Sea, having been initially recovered by locals, before they were persuaded by Corp Sec that it would be better if 'Crosly Bendix Corp' made sure the shipment reached its final destination.

No-one mentioned what the cargo actually was, Parfit thought it was probably best not to know.

Rossi took a wander through the undercity before shipping out and by chance met a Logan's World Native who came from the dust sea, the guy said he'd been a miner but was now looking for work, so Rossi took him along thinking his local knowledge might be useful. (Pre-battle exploration result = New Crew Member.)

The crew land just outside the settlement, Wilmorton stays on the ship while Lenton, the new hand, leads the crew into the settlement. However, Jal Frezi and Chester are held up when a pack of wild sand runners charge the ship, they stay behind to fight them off till Wilmorton can get the ship clear. (Deployment Condition,= Delayed).

Turn one sees Parfitt, Lenton and Mak take up positions behind the hamlet's decrepit generator, Rossi climbs a hill and sets up her rifle behind the comms dish.

Rossi surveys the buildings and observes a Corpo Sec team set up around what must be the cargo. They're alerted to the crews presence but seem unaware as to their positions. Rossi also recognises one of the Corpos from the wanted holos back in the Sprawl, as Scorpio, a low level hood wanted for various shootings. (Notable Sights = priority target.)

Taking advantage of the corpos' ignorance to their position, the crew moves up while Rossi takes a pot shot at Scorpio but misses.

Alerted to their position, the corpos spring into action, Scorpio hits Parfit who is stunned as a result and moves back into cover, (the bullet magnet,) and the rest of their squad maneuvers.

Mak and Parfitt make their way around the generator, Mak draws a bead on an exposed trooper and downs him with a burst from her auto rifle.

Rossi fires on Scorpio, hitting him this time but failing to wound, (he's toughness 5). Scorpio takes a stun marker.

On seeing one of his colleagues fall, one of the corpos realises that good dental insurance isn't everything and legs it.

In turn two, Rossi once again fires on Scorpio, hitting him but again failing to wound, although Scorpio now has two stun markers, meaning  another hit and a third stun will remove him from play.

With this in mind 'Dirty' Parfitt steps out into the open and fires on Scorpio with her Magnum hyper blaster, scoring three hits and blowing his head clean off. The third stun marker wasn't necessary but getting the corpse ID'd for the bounty might be a problem.

In turn 3 Parfit advances brazenly on the corpos position, gunning down the corpo Lt in the process. Rossi takes out a trooper in cover behind the cargo crates and Mak and Lenton fire on the remaining trooper but miss.

Finally, in turn 4, wanting to make up for lost time, Chester and Jal act in the quick phase, First Chester moves up and fires his plasma rifle, but in his haste he fluffs the shots, then Jal fires a burst of her rattlegun from the crest of the hill, scoring two hits and taking out the last trooper.

In the post battle sequence the crew find some trinkets on the battlefield and Wilmorton reports over the comms from the shuttle that Mak needs to take a look at her busted auto rifle.

Campaign Turn 11

As five Parsecs Battles are more often than not, short and to the point, Rather than spend time putting away one scenery set, getting out another and setting up again, I decided to play another campaign turn on the same board, waste not want not?

No sooner had the Silas's people picked up the cargo, than the crew's comms crackled to life.

'We at the Crosly Bendix Corp wish to congratulate you on your successful application to become one of our external contractors. We are most impressed by your application process and can offer you an immediate contract should you be interested.'

The crew exchanged confused glances, was this not the corp whose goons the crew had just dispatched. Parfit responded, 'We?re listening.'

'As you have just eliminated our security detail, we require you to make amends  by carrying out that unit's next orders: Rid a neighbouring settlement of a gang of delinquents  who have been interfering with our operations. Proceed 5 clicks west to the coordinates I am now sending and eliminate contacts. Payment will be transferred upon confirmation. Failure to comply will mean the Crosly Bendix Corp considers you to be liable for both the loss of our security detail and the theft of our resources. Be aware, you do not want to be in our debt, but on the other hand, we can be generous benefactors. I look forward to your next appraisal.'

And with that the comms went dead.

While the crew did not appreciate the thinly veiled threat, the work was welcome and they were in the neighbourhood. Parfitt quietly mused over what kind of mess Silas had got  them in this time.

The next mission was 'Fight Off' , a simple case of eliminating all opposition.

The opposition was a lowly gang from the criminal elements table, although there were 9 of them, armed mainly with stolen military rifles, no doubt stolen from Crosly Bendix Corp.

The Crew arrived at the co-ordinates and set up in wait for their prey.

Turn 2, Parfitt, Rossi and Jal act in the quick phase. Parfitt climbs the stairs onto the roof, and instead of waiting for everyone else to get into position, lets rip with her hyper blaster, dropping 3 gangers.

The ganger armed with a shotgun opens up on Mak from the cover of the crates but fails to score a hit. The ganger armed with an autorifle moves up to the cover of the crates, fires at Mak but also misses. 'These guys can't shoot for shit.' Says Mak over her shoulder to Wilmorton.

Another of the remaining gangers positions himself on the other side of the desert scrub so he can fire at Mak, but he too misses.

The gang's leader takes steady aim down the length of his rifle, carefully sighting Parfitt between the eyes, but alas, it's true, they can't shoot for shit and he misses wildly.

Wilmorton and Mak return fire, Wilmorton dropping the ganger armed with the autorifle. At this point one of the gangers gives up, dropping his rifle and running away.

In turn 4, Rossi slowly and carefully sets up her rifle's bipod on the roof, takes a deep breath and wastes the ganger with the shotty, before Parfitt calmly puts 2 holes through the gang's leader.

Post battle the crew collect some shiny bits and bobs that might be worth a credit or two, and also find a motion tracker among the cargo crates.

Although they had easily won the encounter, there was a growing feeling among the crew that more than adventurers looking to make a living, they'd become little more than hired killers.

The gang they just eliminated were just some sorry wastelanders, trying to scratch a living from under the boot of the corps that made all the decisions on Logan's world, and every other planet both on the fringe and perhaps even more so in Unity Systems, and now it seemed to the crew that they'd become corpo lap dogs themselves.

Parfitt reflected on Sillas, how little they actually knew about him. Perhaps it was time they did a little digging.

Lovely table and indeed, my own previous play of these rules makes it pretty much a "two-for-one" with the scenery, maybe some small rearrangement to make it look like: "oh, a brand new place we've never been to before!"  lol

Great report. Love both the figures and the terrain.

5 Parsecs games can be somewhat one sided but even then I enjoy the games.

Recently played a game with the crew of Destiny's Child in which they took on Vortexes (Vortices?). Unpainted minis due to the gout in hands and feet (Oh, the horror!). Also somewhat one-sided ... in the other direction.

Fortunately the after action die rolls were kinder to the crew than to their in-game shooting!

The red is vmc red hull base, then Vmc flat red, it is was washed with army painter strong tone and then worked back up to flat red.

The grey fatigues are just citadel contrast basilicanum grey.

Campaign turn 12

The crew’s next mission was another job for Silas, but this time Parfitt’s crew were after a little more than just another payday.

Additionally, I decided to up the stakes by introducing some of the additional rules from the expansions.

Silas wanted the crew to extract some data from one of the old loading bays in the
hangers located on the northern edge of the sprawl. Once again, there was no mention of what the data was, what it would be used for or why Silas wanted it.

Parfit supposed that he was getting hold of it for some third party, but she and the crew had decided they’d be taking a look at the data before handing over to Silas, perhaps to  try to work out a little more about their shady patron.

This is the table set up, representing the interior of the old hanger. The data terminal is in the middle of the table on top of the central structure.

The crew would be facing a  corporate security detail, a Lt, with a Mk 2 security bot equipped with a fury rifle, 4 standard corpo troopers with military rifles and 2 trooper specialists with rattle gun and shell gun respectively. Additionally, the corpos would receive reinforcements according to some of the rules from the 5 parsecs supplements.

Parfitt takes out one of the corpo’s Rattle Guns, Rossi bags the other specialist armed with a grenade launcher, Jal goes into overwatch covering the left flank.

The corpos respond by moving up and firing on both sides, but scoring no hits. In the corresponding fire from Jal’s overwatch, a corpo trooper takes 2 stuns.

The rest of the crew then open fire, with Chester downing another trooper.

2 of the corpos exchange worried glances and decide to bail.

Things are looking good for the crew, will this be another walk in the park?

The Bot returns fire on Jal but fails to hit, however, the Lt maneuvers and opens up on Jal, wounding her and forcing her back into cover Jal is fortunate enough to have a stim pack.

The rest of the crew now start to move down the right side of the hanger in an effort to try and flank the corpo leader and her security bot.

From up in the rafters of the aging hanger, there comes a creaking noise as a vent crawler drops out of the shadows, landing on the central structure with the data terminal, poised to strike.

Much to the surprise of Chester and Wilmorton, two troopers burst into the hangar, cutting off their intended flanking maneuver. (Battlefield event =reinforcements)

Turn 3 begins with Parfitt blasting the vent crawler out of existence while Chester and Wilmorton dive into cover and fire on the trooper reinforcements, but fail to hit.

Chester and Wilmorton both take return fire from the troopers, Chester is saved by his combat armour  but Wilmorton is not so lucky. Chester has to administer a stim pack to stop her bleeding out.

Rossi picks off another of the troopers while Mak fires on them but fails to take the corpo down.

Jal repositions on the other side of the table to avoid fire from the corpo Lt, and line up the bot but she is still shaken from the Lt’s fire and cannot return fire this turn.

In turn 4, Rossi targets another trooper, she fails to wound him but he’s removed from play as he has 3 stun markers.

The security bot then fires on both Parfitt and Jal, missing Parfitt but scoring a hit on Jal who is not wounded but takes another stun marker. The Lt. then hits Parfit with a 6 meaning an auto wound. Parfitt  is only saved by the shot being deflected by her comms unit, (luck point).

Jal throws caution to the wind and fires a burst of her rattle gun at the bot, failing to pierce it’s armour but putting enough stun markers on it to take it out of the game.

At the end of the turn the corpos receive further reinforcements, a trooper and another specialist with a rattlegun who immediately opens fire on Jal, (battlefield event =reinforcements and  escalation result = covering fire.)

In turn 5 the whole crew acts in the quick phase of the turn. Chester and Wilmorton emerge on the right flank, with Chester eliminating the recently arrived trooper with the rattlegun.

Parfitt, Mak and Jal all close in to eliminate the remaining corpos and extract the data, with Parfitt finally taking down the Lt.

In the post battle sequence the crew discover that the data is little more than a tracking manifest for a shipment that left the planet a week ago. The contents were not specified but the shipment's destination was listed.

The crew resolved that if they wanted to find out more, they’d have to track the shipment themselves and maybe get some more info about what Silas was up to.

With this in mind, Mak started getting the ship space worthy but suffered a minor injury when one of the flaps she was working on came loose, causing her to fall from the hull and twist an ankle. Nothing serious but she’d miss the next mission, and the crew would have to wait before they could leave Logan’s world.

Campaign turn 13

Parfitt reflects on the idea of leaving Logan’s World and realises she’s become attached to the place. (Exploration result, 1 story point to leave.) Jal sells some cargo to both make some space for the trip and earn some cash for supplies and any unforeseen incidents that the crew might encounter.

The crew now have a new quest mission, to find out who’s pulling the strings. Who exactly is Silas and can the crew find a purpose beyond that of being contract killers in order to make a living.

As the ship is not ready to travel, and Mak is still recovering, Parfitt decides to accept a routine job from a contact. There are containers in the hanger area that came in on a freighter, and the contact would like to know what was in them. Easy enough.

Unfortunately for Parfitt, on arriving the crew discover that the loading bay is infested, the cargo has escaped or rather hatched and the area is overrun with giant carnivorous bugs.

It’s a trap?

The crew have been set up, someone wants them out of the way.

A couple of tense moments, but the crew prevailed.
