Title: BSC 2025: Discussion
Post by: Burgundavia on November 01, 2024, 04:30:45 PM
Well friends. It is Nov 1st and it is now time to start talking about BSC 2025. Who's in? When should we start? Thoughts on theme? I'm happy to run it again (maybe I'll be able to sneak out some admin duties before the start too, clean up the forum a bit)

I'm in!
Ideas:-
Something NOT man (or anything sentient) made.
It floats.
Bridge.
Infernal Machine.
Time Machine.
Victorian Sci-Fi.
Supply Train.
It was planned, but never built.

I'll have another go.
As for suggestions, something natural would make a change.

I am open to just about anything.  My only limitation may be resetting up my hobby space as it looks like we are moving house again.   :-[

What about 'Vessel'? It could then be a ship of some sort (water, air, space) or something to do with containers / storage / cargo etc.

"Vessel" sounds great!

Suitably vague, which makes it great as a subject.

I might be in again, even though this year's go took up so much of my hobby time I've not recovered even by now. Seriously; my painted miniatures output has never been this low. Ever.

So while I'm of course capable of building something nice, I'm totally incapable of doing that without completely hamstringing myself with my compulsive detailing affliction (CDA). Meaning that I'd like to, but I might give it a pass, in favour of less ambitious, but more prolific projects.

Still; you never know if the itch doesn't surface after all at the last moment  ::)

What about 'Vessel'?

I have an idea that would suit - better read the copy of "Ships and Seamanship in the Ancient World" that I bought ages ago and have never opened...

I'm definitely interested. As for the theme I'm ok with anything, though vessel sounds good.

Always been agog at some of the wonderful builds but think I should step out of my comfort zone and throw my hat in the ring.

I plan on having a lesser load for the AHPC this winter and should have more time available for BSC 2025. As far as possible themes go...

None shall pass
Something wicked this way comes
Lights, camera, action
Mi casa, su casa

I am interested.  My fortified lamasery is currently on hold so I have room in my itinerary. I have no illusions of a win but I aways get a usable piece of terrain out of this contest.

Any thoughts on when it'd start?

Last years was March I believe.

For my part as long as I know a month or so in advance so I can plan around it would be cool.

Whilst I get it that the whole rational of BSC is to motivate people to get a bit of terrain on the board, it probably needs to be a bit more specific than the last round to function as a competition.

Finding a sweet spot for a theme just broad enough to lure people in while not being so broad that someone could enter pretty much anything and say 'yeah well someone do whatever the theme is there' seems to be quite tricky. What I am saying is if there is going to be a theme, it should be an entry requirement or possibly subject to some sort of handicap.

We all get to see the fruits of others labours, so maybe it's just a problem in my mind only.

I'm not sure we need a more specific theme to get better participation. I look at other contests I'm either participated in or watched, like the monthly Gaslands Car of the Month on the main Gaslands FB group. Their themes are very generic and get lots of people. I think the issue is more we just need for.keep attracting people to the forum to grow numbers and that involves being good ambassadors for LA. Part of that is also mentioning the competition in other places when it goes live.

It looks like there is enough interest to run something. I'm thinking we have a formal topic poll in early Jan with a Feb 1st start. Does that work for all?

That will work for me too.  Just have to see how well established my hobby space is after the move.  Pretty non-existent at the moment.

Been a couple of years since I've managed a BSC entry but early 2025 might actually work for me, so following with interest!
