Title: Jacobites on the left!
Post by: has.been on 02 November 2024, 03:05:55 PM
During the visit of my friend Gregor (aka Zingara) I had the opportunity
to get out my 1745 troops.
I have enough government troops (Formally owned by  Dave Brookes, a friend & great painter)
but am still short of Jacobites (Painting tartans  :-[), so the scenario was as follows:-
Government troops are marching North when they are ambushed from the woods & rough
ground to their left.
We played the game twice. In the first Gregor took the role of Col. Fortesque Smythe, a cad.
while I played Laird James McFearson.

In both games the Rebels created mayhem with the Redcoat column, but ran out of steam.
Gregor however was better in both roles than I was. As Fortesque Smythe he lived through
the game & as McFearson managed to kill (my) Smythe.  :-[

Mention should be made of the Royal Esscoisse, the best troops on the Jacobite side , which
belong to my mate James. Fantastic paint job.
I cling to the wild charge of the Clan Chisolm, who despite taking horrendous casualties
cut through several Redcoated units.
Great fun was had.

Lovely minis and game; Jacobites are a much under-appreciated period of history.

Ta guys. I do enjoy it, but really must paint up a load more hairy Scots.  :D

My question is: how did the golfers feel about having their games interrupted by a battle breaking out?!  lol

Seriously, looks like you had fun with a nice collection of miniatures.

Thanks Peter and your good lady for your hospitality. Another great looking game. When lined up with their banners in full array looks stunning. A fun battle with panic and mayhem on those ambushed government forces - as it should be :-).

You are welcome, as always Gregor.
Oh & thanks for never rubbing my nose in how many times you beat me. :D

Your Royal Esscoisse  were the stars of both games.

What a lovely collection and great game!  I'm rather jealous, as I'd love to have a Jacobite army.  I can paint tartan, but definitely lack the stamina to paint so much! ;)

I agree.  :D
The way I did the first wave was to do one Clan at a time. Under our (Vodkafan & I) modifications
to Rebels & Patriots, a 'Clan' can be small = One base, medium = Two bases, or large = Three bases.
So, & this is something I must get back into doing, paint up 6,12 or 18 stylized tartan 'hairies' and
add another Clan. :D

Lovely battle and report.  Tough luck for the wee Scots, though...
