One of the games played at this month's meeting of the Devon Wargames Group was using the second scenario from Robert Giglio's scenario book, "The Senussi's Little Miniature war 1915-1917", recreating the rescue of the crew of HMS Tara by an intrepid unit of armoured cars and support vehicles on a lightening strike to Bir Hakeim

I know the chaps playing this game really enjoyed it.

Nice blog! I've paid little attention to the ground war in WW1, concentrating on the air battles. My Welsh grandfather was in the war, here's his Discharge Certificate data:
ENLISTED - MAY 19, 1915 CHESHIRE YEOMANRY PRIVATE
DISCHARGED – FEB 5, 1919
(FROM DISCHARGE CERTIFICATE)
CORPS REGIMENT No. RANK
CHESHIRE YEOMANRY 1670 PRIVATE
MANCHESTER REGIMENT 40456 PRIVATE
MACHINE GUN CORPS 24922 PRIVATE
MEDALS/BADGES: BRITISH WAR MEDAL
MERCANTILE MARINE MEDAL
VICTORY MEDAL
SILVER WAR BADGE (517947)
I only saw him once, when I was 5yrs old back in 1956. Here's a photo of him and my grandmother, my brother, and myself (blonde on the right)

Great job painting those mini's especially considering how small they are.

Glad you're enjoying the book - Huzzah!

Great research, and a cool game.
How did you use FFoL in the game - you mention rolling for initiative, but I thought in FFoL card order determined initiative? I’m interested as we’ve never used vehicles in our FFoL games, so wanted to see how you had incorporated them.

Thanks for the nice words, Fred.
I did not use FFoL rules for the game.
The comment about initiative, which is in everyone one of my scenarios, so it can be modified for whatever rules set is used to play them, is for those rules that use initiative then X side goes first for turn 1, etc. But for those rules that use cards drawn to see what unit goes first, simply play it that way without any changes. Treat all vehicles as a separate card in the scenarios, as indeed they would be a separate unit. That's the way it works in STEA (Setting the East Ablaze!) rules, with cards.
Does that help?

Bob

Sorry, though as Fistful of Lead was in the title, that was the ruleset used.
