Title: Frontline Heroes: Modern Warfare - new upcoming skirmish wargame
Post by: tereydavi on November 21, 2024, 05:44:32 PM
Frontline Heroes: Modern Warfare is a miniature-agnostic skirmish wargame set in the modern day. Players can choose to play solo (or cooperatively), controlling one side and facing an AI system that controls the enemy, or engage in competitive mode against a human opponent.

As a skirmish game, Frontline Heroes focuses on close, man-to-man confrontations, where a small number of miniatures (ranging from 4 to 15 per side) are used on a tabletop with terrain pieces to represent a skirmish or a small part of a larger battle.

Modern warfare encompasses any type of small-scale confrontation or skirmish that has taken place from 1990 to the present day: Marines facing insurgents in the Iraq War, robbers battling the police during a city heist, military police clashing with cartel members in South America, SWAT teams raiding a farm controlled by an armed sect... your imagination is the limit.

Available soon on wargamevault.

Curious as to how the AI system works. Does this mean the game requires a PC or laptop to play? Or is it just a silly way of saying the game contains a matrix for Opfor decisions?

Won't the AI be overloaded with its other, everyday, tasks like writing undergraduate essays, giving bad navigation instructions and creating images willed forth by  instructions to 'paint me Hilary Duff in the nude'?

The whole thing sounds much more like an on-table first person shooter than anything else and I get that's probably the aim. Be interested to see how many people actually want to play Call of Duty on the tabletop.

The AI is a flowchart system that takes the decisions of the enemy side, trying to be as similar as posible as to a human player.

A first person shooter? Nothing to do, I'm afraid.

Its a skirmish wargame, ranging from 4 to 15 miniatures per side. And it's a ruleset that allows to play any kind of modern Warfare.

The system is improved from the Frontline Héroes: fields of Normandy wargame. There are a few videos showing how the system works (just in case you are interested).

If you want to see something else about the game or the rules there is a blog with more info on the system:
