Title: 10mm Viking Army for Big Battle Ravenfeast
Post by: PBR Streetgang on November 23, 2024, 06:32:22 PM
Managed to finish up all the figures necessary to field the Viking armies of Fulford Gate and Stamford Bridge. The figures are mostly Old Glory 10mm with some Pendraken and Magister Militum sprinkled in. I will be painting the Anglo-Saxons next (already underway) and the Normans after that.

The Vikings have quite a diverse army with bondi, hirdmen, archers, scouts, Scottish mercenaries, Tostig's Saxons and berserkers. A fun and colorful army to paint. They look great, very sharp painting!

Is big battle Ravenfeast basically a matter of replacing single figures with square element bases and then using the rules as written? If so, it seems like a cool way to use the rules, as it would move figure scale and measurement scales closer together. I’ve pondered doing something like that with other games, like Lion Rampant.

It is essentially the same rules as-is however there are a few additional rules specific to the big battle variant regarding command and control and shieldwalls. The downloads for the scenarios and rules for both big battle variant and the core rules are available for free on the LittleWarsTV website.

Recently, I have been playing The Men Who Would Be Kings but using multiple 10mm figures on a single 30mm base just to give it a more grand look.

Thanks for clarifying that, I didn’t realize there was a big battle add-on available. I’ll check that out!

Your approach to The Men Who Would be Kings sounds grand!

If you get a chance, check out their YouTube battle reports on the three battles of the 1066.csmpaign. they used 6mm figures on rather lovely 2x2 battle tiles

Thanks Captain! I'm hoping to get all three armies painted up around tr new year and on the table for a battle in February. I don't game as often as I would like...my primary gaming partner has been on a hiatus recently and I meet up with my other gaming friends at the conventions (next being in February). Perhaps I can run a solo-playtest once I have the Saxons painted up...

I look forward to hearing how your campaign goes as well!

Very nice. :-* :-*

I choosed 15mm instead. It goes the same way basically. I think i will use 3cm square bases for mine.
