Title: What I painted in December 2024
Post by: mikedemana on December 04, 2024, 02:07:53 AM
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLLzFP8mA14GBXY8_Jb_XExbXfXLXRb7v0gJ5-7mi9z0JWi5qaguevFuvU5-nenIMlncqg1_MvZs0QO6kbTd3ToVVhGid0m-ZqgVXd20jqSkDzWij-WreR6fBX6SWsvGXJPBqw_YPD98sWEYTuJlPnEoorvLUA57W3Vw2Pw-664Q8oFZabBy4hRT0hT64/w640-h464/PrismDroids%20All3WithFigs.jpg)

I made some floating droids from materials I picked up for cheap at the local craft store. Although it may not appear like it at first, there WAS actually some painting on these!  lol

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBrA0NmZEjnq1jrmXER0EmlynAkZeYwC1pziY4B_YkVQRjXq9f0kjuvDG3QKTYEfVbaC7-GzW8IokguwEo38mU89dNFjEXBCvMAcGRelNKXjJZockdjFUl9_mM_xBDnkF8myYRBFRoE9QdAPX2nTS1TYh14zJXnl9zhpQyhCWeDTA7M_4I2rvuJwFH4Ic/w640-h462/PrismDroids%20Materials.jpg)

So, what did I make them out of...? Here is a pic of the all the materials (er, except the 20mm MDF base near the top of the figure. I forgot to dig some of those out and put them in the post-construction, "here are all the materials" shot).  lol

(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAMyrifJeawHoG4K1IoHzSWuDXY129rOZpoL4n9IHRwmjEMrgCz8pfMtjvK3DZM7ZDQxWKIPy9e3DH6yPtjeiciitu8ao25KAOqCM4g7y-Gv2MXTOj4YABstHPyVAjgOC_HsTfO6xKqADX1uO5Lh8yA8tcjJNqu5-StG2vuBNBVoMegypOrXUCnvLfvzM/w640-h372/PrismDroids%20All3Down.jpg)

This photo shows the droids "floating" above the base. For more pics and discussion on how I did everything (AND what held me up for a month racking my brain...), check out my post on my Lead Legionaries blog:

Very nice construct.
I like (especially) the gems on top.

Completely agree, that’s some very cool scratch building!

I primed these in November, but did most of the painting in December - zombies for my Last of Us inspired post-apoc horde. They’re Zombicide figs, a little tall and skinny and the details on some are a bit shallow, but they paint up well.

3D printed Dark Anakin I painted for a friend.

The cloak was painted using Reapers black glaze over brown method for a warm black. In person you can see the brown tone pulling through in the highlight. In pictures not so much.

Very nice, I must try for a 'warm black'.

Do like the flora.  ;)

While at a loss at what to paint next, I pulled out this batch of seven Mega Miniatures modern civilians. Although I fully realize Mega Minis is towards the bottom end of sculpting quality, I like how they turned out in general.

Two of my favorites are the jogger and the little girl (selling cookies?). To read more about my take on these figures (and see more pics), and how I came to paint up such a random batch, check out my Lead Legionaries blog:

Do bases count?

@dwbullock - I thought the base with two bottles on it (top middle) was a bottle and chopped off arm and hand holding it!

(You may find it better to post jpg here tbh - iPhone camera format to most compatible IIRC).

Yeah, that's an oopsie.  Tried posting from my phone.  It's an Android, so not sure why it wasn't a jpeg.  And these are all for some goblin pirates I have, so maybe I will paint one with an arm holding a bottle :)

Thanks for the reminder and bump on this thread...! I forgot to post a pic of my Rebel Alliance figs here...!

The robot Legionaire and kneeling woman are both from Hydra Miniatures. The orangutan with gun and the robed desert looking guy are from Battle Valor Games. The helmeted man is from the Stargrave crew set.

Lovely stuff Mike.

Today I finished the first unit of North Star Heavy Orcs

Probably the last one for me for 2024. I wanted some low-tech aliens, who also had unarmed civilian versions. I got these from a Kickstarter a while ago

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I like those low-tech aliens! And the Orcses, my precious...  lol

I have had these guys done for several days, but finally got a chance to take pictures of them today.

Four more survivors for my Zombie RV games. Check out my blog spot for discussion of where the figs come from and how I painted them:

Been making the most of my week off. Another unit of Orcs (these will be Shock Troops), and then some 3D prints for Guards of Traitor’s Toll - a bunch of thugs, more merchants (oops looks like some pots got knocked off the bench), and a few ‘casualty’ markers.

I had a frenzied burst of activity last week in preparation for my Viking Raid game. I got ready for the tabletop two buildings, nine peasants, four highland cattle, two oxen, and a flickering LED firepit. Whew! If I had thought of it, maybe I should have included a partridge in a pear tree...?  lol

For details about all of the above, check out my Lead Legionaries blog post here:
http://leadlegionaries.blogspot.com/2024/12/my-hurried-week-of-dark-age-town.html

This brings my 2024 total to 227 Miniatures Acquired vs. 254 Miniatures Painted. I ended up in the positive...woo-hoo!  lol

Third, and final, unit of Heavy Orcs.  Plus an Asgard Rising Druid, three also 3D printed Werewolves, and my last Otherworld miniature I still had kicking around (I have been using the farmer version of the cart driver and hadn’t painted the Wizard version).

Lots of lovely stuff here!

I have nothing to show. I've realised I haven't painted anything since February 2023. I should probably get my sh*t together.

Sounds like an excellent candidate for a New Year's resolution! If you haven't dabbled in contrast/speed paints and slap-chop, have a go. It's a quick way to get a win and start getting your eyes back in :)

Actually painted something this month, a few more bits for the Death Korps of Krieg.
Hopefully going to get some more done this month, need to get a good wack of them finished before the damned pledge, thing, turns up.

Aye, I've watched a few videos, and I certainly have a big ol' lead (and plastic) mountain to tackle... I have few excuses. I'll get on with it, I promise!

Finished yesterday. My final 2024 painting: 28mm Jawas from mixed 3D printers (I tried my best to hide the height differences), painted with Contrast and Speedpaints.
