A few years ago I started buying figurines from Redoubt Miniatures in the Three Musketeers range. As I recently reread the story written by Alexandre Dumas, it made me take out my figurines again.
Going to the site, Grubby announces that he will retire in 2026. So I took the paper catalog that I had with my first purchase, to make a supplement, before this date.
Except that when I compare the 2 the site and my catalog there are references that are no longer on the site (TM31 to TM42 as well as the references TMX1 to TMX8).
Perhaps a member of this honorable Forum would have some answers. I also sent an email to Redoubt to ask him the cause of this lack. ;)
-
Took a look and found most of the missing items in a post - but not current. Looking at the codes, I'd guess the best answer is that they were low sellers - mounted musketeers and civilians and vignettes. Perhaps the molds still are present and maybe you can order if wanted? Best I can offer.
My Musketeers are from Blue Moon in 18 mm - with additional figures from same companies ECW ranges with a few from Khurasan Miniatures. All primed now but not yet painted. Part of my 2025 plan.
-
Thank you for your reply. I made a copy of the small catalog he sent me at the time and we can see the different drawings of figurines with their references. This could give a little extra to those who would like to complete and start in this range.
I have already written to ask them if the references that we do not see on the site have a possibility of purchase. But to date no news, I put that down to the end of year celebrations.
So we have the same plan for this new year, you 18 mm and me in 30 mm. We will be able to send each other photos during this year to see the evolution of our projects. What rule have you decided on to play with the figurines. ;)

Small handling error ;)

I will most likely be using Fistful of Lead for my collection - especially with the Task Roll option to allow cinematic actions. I do have a couple of other sets of rules focused on Musketeers but I've gotten to a point where I am a Rules Minimalist, as in the fewer rules I need to keep in my head the better I like it - and simpler rules, too. So, FFOL and Rank and File are pretty much it, skirmish to grand skirmish for the former (Bigger Battles variant) and larger battles with RaF.
And, sure, photos once I get there - but for first part of year AWI gets priority - at least until April 19 when I hope to run a Lexington/Concrod game on the actual 250th anniversary. Though, when I need a break, Musketeers and Robin Hood will sneak in - along with more Old West.
Redoubt figures are beautiful so I'm certain yours will top mine for visual appeal. But I've also got to the point where an adequately painted figure runs circles - and at light speed no less - around a pile of figures waiting to get painted. Not that I don't like better painted, just would rather have more painted versus a few spectacularly painted. For a taste of my collection - only primed, check out this thread: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=144423.0 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=144423.0)
A little over the top? Nope. A lot over the top. But fun. Biggest challenge is actually architecture but I plan on using a lot of 3D printed medieval buildings I've acquired - maybe not a perfect match but it certainly will help 'set the mood'. Those, too, need to get assembled and painted. I even have a church to be used as a not very close stand-in for Notre Dame.
It's all about the fun for me. And, it's all based on fiction so how can we really go wrong!

Yes you are right it is a pleasure to be able to collect figurines and to be interested in a particular period at the moment. For my part upstream I research the events and the history of this period, as well as the costumes. To try to be as historically accurate as possible.
I went to see at the address you gave me, you have many figurines, I imagine that when all this is ready you will have a very beautiful table with your decorations.
For the moment I have not yet decided on a rule, some time ago I had started an adaptation of the Songs of Blades and Heroes rule, each character has a card with particularities. But first of all I will have to order new figurines and then paint them. So I still have time to decide on a rule. ;)

Here is an excerpt from the film The Three Musketeers which marked my childhood. ;)

Calvin: thanks for posting the catalogue. I bought about 30 of Redoubt's figures a long time ago when they first came out. I'd be interested to hear whether any of the missing figures/sets is still available. I must admit that I have never seen some of the figures/sets, and I had no idea they existed - like the beggars, waifs and strays and the people sitting around the table.
I'd be careful about the quality of the moulds, by the way. I remember that the heads were really bad when they first came out, with the two halves of the moulds often not properly aligned, and I'd be surprised if the moulds have got better with time.

Thank you Paul, yes compared to the site and the pages of the catalog that I published there are some differences. I wrote to Reboudt but for the moment I have no feedback.
By searching on the site it happens to find references in other ranges, but you have to search, like in the Body's Bits BB39, BB40 and BB41 section for example.
Otherwise if you have some head problems I suggest you take heads from Bloody Miniatures or even Bicorne.
Have you never painted the figurines? ;)
-
Thanks. I had mine painted when they first came out. It must have been the late 80s.
-
Paul, it would be nice if you could send me some pictures of your painted musketeer figurines. ;)
-
Calvin: this won't happen for a while, I'm afraid. The figures, being so old, are packed away and we're soon off on holiday. There was a photo of them in a programme for Salute back in the day. It's possible someone still has a copy. Sadly, I don't myself.
-
Paul I thought you had painted them, but it doesn't matter. Do you think you'll paint them one day? If not if you're interested I could take them back.
If not what is your holiday destination ? ;)
-
Calvin: the figures were painted by Kevin Dallimore circa 1990. Because I have limited display space, I keep older figures in storage, only getting them out from time to time. These figures are in storage.
-
Paul, I understand now for your miniatures are in reserve. It's like me not having much space my miniatures are stored in boxes.
As soon as I have information about the miniatures that we do not see on the Reboudt site, I will inform you.
I hope that the silence is due to the end of year holidays and that I will have an answer soon.
Last question with which rule did you play them? ;)
-
I think I have all of the Redoubt 3 Musketeers range, most of which are painted - I haven't painted the mounted figures and some of the seated figures yet.
I am now using the figures mostly with the Swashbuckler rules:

Calvin: I'm a collector and I don't game. Sorry.
-
Thanks black hat miniatures for your pictures as well as the rule you play with.
Paul it doesn't matter it takes different people to make a world and especially the world of figurines.
Here is the rule "En Garde" published in 1996 in the magazine Vae Victis N°7, sorry it is in French. ;)
-
Maybe I'm confusing my ranges of figures, but I have a feeling Redoubt also made a coach and horses.
-
Yes Paul, Redoubt did make a coach and horses reference CWX58, as well as a driver and coachman CW231 & CW232. ;)
-
Some very nice stuff out there .This has made my quite nostalgic as I have a box file of nearly all the Redoubt figures ( including the coach) ready painted in my "deep store". I think I got them in the mid-late 1990s. Almost never used, as I couldn't find a set of rules I liked. I was waiting for the 2FL's set that I saw at a "Lard Day" back in 2023 but they seem to have disappeared without trace. I now have a copy of Osprey's "En Garde" which I hear are quite good.
If you want more terrain pieces Frontline Wargaming produce some very nice-looking resin pieces which are specifically designed for use with the Redoubt figures. 2025 could be the year that finally sees me try and get my collection onto the table!
-
Thanks SJWi, I didn't remember FrontlineWargaming making scenery for the musketeers. I think 2025, I'll be looking into that.
Maybe you could post some pictures of your musketeers if you've painted them? ;)
-
SJWi, if you have the catalog in a file, would it be possible to send it to me, so that I can see the figurines that may be missing. Because in the photos of Frontline Wargaming there are sitting figurines. Thank you in advance. ;)
-
Black hat miniatures, could you tell me where you got the tables and chairs? Thanks in advance. ;)
-
Calvin, I'm afraid I don't have any catalogue to post or send to you. I will try to take some photos of my figures tomorrow and post them. I do plan to refurbish/touch them up as they were painted maybe 20 years ago. It is yet another project that has seen too little action on the gaming table. In 2025 I might also invest in the Frontline terrain items. I have been slowly buying some Warbases' English Civil War/17th century buildings which can see service with both my ECW armies and 3 Musketeers.
-
It's okay my dear SJWi, but if you have time tomorrow to take some pictures that would be great. It is true that when some painted figurines are a little old, they need a little refresh. We will be able in this new year 2025 to train ourselves in the evolution of this musketeer project.
I would like to wish you my best wishes for a happy new year and that your projects succeed. ;)
-
Black hat miniatures, could you tell me where you got the tables and chairs? Thanks in advance. ;)
I made them on my laser cutter - pretty simple shapes. The whole Swashbuckler board is laser cut.
Mike
-
Thanks Mike for your explanations. ;)
-
Calvin, a few photos of my figures. The bases need redoing and I will re-varnish the figures as they are a bit shiny.
-
Thank you SJWi for this series of photos of your figurines, they are superb . ;)
