Title: French Regimental Standards
Post by: robh on 23 January 2025, 01:23:35 PM
Does anyone know if this image shows a genuine standard or a generic interpretation to cover all the illustrated regiments?

(https://www.meisterdrucke.fr/kunstwerke/1260px/French_School_-_Review_of_the_14th_July_Our_Colonial_Troops_illustration_from_Le_Petit_Journal_s_-_%28MeisterDrucke-36382%29.jpg)

I cannot find reference to this standard with "RF" inside the wreath instead of the usual regimental number or abbreviation (or just blank for the REI March regiments).

If this is just artistic licence then what would the Tiralleurs Senegalese standard look like?

I am guessing this is early 1900s ? RF(Republique Francaise) was normal on a flag of that time.

Here is an example :https://wellyhaus.com/products/antique-republique-francaise-flag (https://wellyhaus.com/products/antique-republique-francaise-flag)

I think it's a a generic standard for all the colonial troops listed under the picture, before the first world war.  :)
