Title: A Bridge too Quar
Post by: mikos khan on January 31, 2025, 03:31:51 AM
A couple of weeks we did a rematch between the forces of Earth (British) and an alien coalition comprising my Selenites, Vynnies flying Martians and Leadfool's long suffering Quar.  The was an aerial assault (mainly because I wanted to use my 28mm flyers) against a fortified bridge crossing (The Bridge Over the River Quar) held by the British.  The alien coalition attacked from both ends of the board and despite taking heavy casualties from the well fortified British were making good progress and once the Quar airborne assault began they seemed to be on the edge of victory.  However, the fortunes of war can turn quickly and once the USAF (United States Aeronef Force) made it's appearance over the battlefield things changed quickly due to the devastating effect of it's firepower on the alien forces.  The fight wasn't over yet because the Martians intervened using their own flyer to engage in a dogfight with the USAF while the Quar made a heroic but ultimately futile final attempt to capture the bridge. We called the game at this point and went out to pizza.   Sorry about the pictures.  Yahoo just "updated" my e-mail and the photos loaded this way.  I'll post the rest of them once I figure out how to do it correctly.

Strangely, as I am still stuck viewing on my phone, it was nice seeing the images strung across the phone. Still too small to see clearly, but nice to see in context.

Anticipating delightful 'nef action!

See?

I said it's good on my phone, and yours won't let you fix it now.

Sorry about that...

Throw the images into edit and crop slightly and rotate 90 degrees.  save image.  It should fix your problem.  Shooting Landscape will help.

I’ve taken the liberty of having a shot at altering one photo to make sure there’s not inherent problem. I just rotated it 90degrees.

Doug
ps: I made it a small image but that’s only because I was experimenting with it.

obviously the last one worked.  Resizing to smaller images might be the trick…the on the fly resize of a portrait pic the blog software here is getting confused as to what is top and defaults to landscape.

Let me try load a shot that was taken in landscape - hope it works.

I think I figured out to edit and then load the pics correctly so let me try again from the beginning.

I'm glad you like the photos and thanks for the suggestion about using the landscape perspective.  It worked.

From how it looks, the D&D skycoach from wizkids.

Yes, the Quar flyer is the Eberron Skycoach from Wizkids.

makes a good 'martian' flyer. personally though i'd want to find some zepplin style skyship for them, since the official Quar setting has them.

I asked for the fliers, and you delivered!

Delightful, and shaming. I've one of the resin pieces used by Martians, though never making it out of the box.

The 'mericans ship has me flummoxed.

The Eberron piece is handsome, maybe a bit TOO for the Quar...  :D

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words.  The American ship is an old GI Joe toy boat that was kit bashed by me and my good friend KD47 a LONG time ago.  I'm afraid I can't take any credit for the Eberron ship since it came pre-painted.

I can see the adjustments to the GI Joe ship, just not the ship itself. Time for the Evil Empire to switch back to a search engine...

Yeah, about the Eberron ship; it's another bit of shame. Had, lost in my recent reversals, and never made to table.

However, I have this jaded view of the Quar. ALL tech must be oversized and clunky.  ;)

Thanks to all who played!

Really? Selenites, too?

EDIT: GI Joe ship is the Swampfire. Took far longer than expected to find, and longer still to remember my quest. In my defense, there is a lot of Joe!

One day the Quar will get their revenge!  It was a good game.  Maybe next time the Quar will manage to ambush an unsuspecting Hooman supply train.

You can get an unpainted version of that ebberon ship for about $45

The yellow flying Martians took a lot of firepower attention.  They were basically "Tribals."  Melee only troops, with few terrain restrictions that advance without the need to roll to activate.  They were really no more than a big group of Zulus who would not be stopped by the low (not mealie bags) wall.  Lucky for the humans, the shooting stopped them before they could close.

Hey quick question for y'all...

Those Space 1889 Martians, are they still available somewhere?

Also...

I dig the Selenites.  Who makes those and where can I get em?

The Selenites are made by Ironclad Miniatures who also make the Martian Flyer but with a few mods added by me.

RAFM still makes the Martians. Edit: '... though not calling them Space 1889.'

Often on eBay, and some sellers offering at prices in line with not out of production.

Sorry, not finding same.

Is there a blog reference I missed, or perhaps someone's phone is playing new tricks?

Too much fun to miss!
