Title: Mutant Year Zero Zone Wars side project.
Post by: Legionnaire on February 15, 2025, 01:29:55 PM
I was not aware that this RPG also had been made into a skirmish game! We recently played it again after many years and this came on my radar. I therefore bought the starter box and have managed to paint up half of the 10 minis included. I hope to have it done by end of the month and playing a game soon after  :).

Indeed sir! In that universe, mankind as we know it is but a distant memory, the core box is consisting of 5 minis each in two factions, Mutated Humans and Mutated Animal! The expansion, which I aim to purchase later on this year, is having Robots and Psionics.

I think they are very nicely sculpted, hard sturdy plastic and paint up very easily, each of the minis full of character. I won't say I have a favourite, but the duck with the crossbow was the first one to get on the painting table  ;).

I haven't played a game yet but the rules seem easy to grasp, even for people who haven't played a miniature skirmish game before and the minis are sundropped in two distinctive colours, so even if you don't want to paint your minis, everything is ready to play straight out of the box. I hope to have the rest finished by end of this month so I can have a go.

I have no problem playing someone else's game with grey plastic, but when it's my own, it won't get played until painted. I'm funny like that  lol.

Thank you!

They are very pleasant to paint up with nice crisp detail.

With health problems, work and other projects in the pipeline, it took me some time to finish off the remaining 5 miniatures from the Core box. Just varnishing left to do and then I can finally have a game  :).

Lovely work! I've had the pleasure to play a one-off game or two of this and it was really quite good fun, we ended up leveling *every* single piece of terrain on the board by the end of the fame. I've heard campaign play is a bit bland tho.

If you need more post-apoc mutant animal types, check out Bad Goblin Games. They have an interesting line for their Trailer Park Warlords of the Apocalypse game.

Looking forward to reading a battle report...

Will there be turtles too? Middle-aged mutant ninja turtles?

This is a self contained skirmish game,  with one more expansion with Robots and psionics. You COULD use other minis and stat them up but I'm happy with this core box.

I'm happy with this core box.

That sounds was every wargamer's jaw hitting the floor.  :D Satisfied? What what you've purchased so far??  lol
